Hi, we have a Canon 3200 and we want to keep track of every users print totals. The problem we're having is that a couple of computers have settings that do not require a dept ID password to print. What do I change to remove that?

Re: Dept ID Canon
Are they PC's or Mac's? For PC's goto control panel, printers / faxes (xp). Choose your printer goto properties and remove the dept ID that is recorded here. If using a PS driver with fiery you will not be prompted. There is a number of combo's here but for the most part look at the dept Id in the printer properties and make sure it's empty. -

Re: Dept ID Canon
Ensure all computers are all using the same version of the driver. Back in early days there would be an ini file that would be altered to prevent Id prompts. I imagine it's a reg control now. I would remove any current driver and reinstall using the self setup. Make sure your checking off the account code feature when your prompted during the install. I forgot the actual name but it is a check box through the setup. It's likely this feature is not enabled on these computers print driversComment

Re: Dept ID Canon
If this is set to "ON" it will print any job sent to it with or without a Dept ID, which if I understand you correctly don't want since there is no tracking. Set it to "OFF" and it will only print jobs sent with an ID and drop the rest. Then follow ESA's instructions on adding the ID in the print driver. The chance that higher life forms might have emerged in this way is comparable to the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junkyard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein. -Fred HoyleComment

Re: Dept ID Canon
using the RUI/web interface, I un-check most of the boxes in setting up Dept IDs. this also frees up faxing and scanning from having to use a dept ID.
I also don't use a PIN unless necessary so even though the window will still be on the screen, the end-user only needs to enter in their dept ID to gain access.Comment

Re: Dept ID Canon
Try this
Go to your printer properties(on those computer that don`t ask for an ID no to print) >device settings>job accounting (make sure to check mark this option)Comment
