imageclass mf8170c align carriage for toner, don't laugh, i know

Okay, client has a few machines from us. This one is in a home office. The trouble is we need to change the yellow cartridge and the stupid carriage will not line up so you can install the cartridge correctly on yellow. Any ideas on how to align the carriage on this little guy?

    Thanks

    1 Press [Menu].
2 Press [((-)] or [)(+)] to select <MAINTENANCE> press [OK].
    3 Press [((-)] or [)(+)] to select <CHANGE CARTRIDGE> press [OK
4 Press [((-)] or [)(+)] to select the cartridge to be replaced press [OK].
You can select from the following:
    - BLACK
    - CYAN
    - MAGENTA
    - YELLOW
    - ALL COLORS

Make sure that the toner cartridge you want to replace is at the position for replacing.
If the spent toner cartridge is not in the replacement position,
close the cover, then open it again when the whirring sound stops. Repeat this process until the cartridge you want to replace is in the correct position.

Thanks for the tip. yes I did that and finally got them all in. The problem now is that it will only print in black and white, no full color. No error message, just blank page when print or copy in full color.
These little machines are a mess!

      Any ideas out there?

        some stupid questions--
        removed the protective covers-?
        pull out the sealing tapes-?

do u hear any noise on rotation ?

have u tried printing out a Engine Test Print
In test printing, the machine prints out the following text pattern in 4 colors (magenta, cyan, yellow, black):

is this available on your model ??> I know the 8180c has it-
To Print out Engine Test Prints
        - When the machine is in a standby state, press [COLOR START KEY] on the control panel to generate a color print.
        - Open the machine's manual feed tray, and press the test print switch found on the front left to generate a single test pattern.

Sounds normal as if carriage is rotating as it should. No.errors, all new cartridges.
