Newbie Replacing Drum cartridge on Imagerunner c2880

    Hi i am a newbie

My church has a junk imagerunner c2880 with a bad drum. I thought i would change the drum myself. i am hitting a snag. We really do not have alot of money to call a tech. I thought with my limited tech knowlege i could do it myself. I am in over my head. IF anyone on the site could give me a play by play on how to change the drum unit that would be great.

this is the only instructions online i can find

Open front door remove clip on cover to righthand top push lever in and right hand lower door will pop open remove 2 screw 1 top left 1 top right release black handle and the whole assyembly draws out press button on top and lift up there is a little black support arm to stop it falling down unlock the drum you want to change and remove

as you can see not very detailed.

    thanks

    john

Hi John, the info you have downloaded is close to correct if you have done this before and forgotten exactly how to.
There are 4 Drum UNITS in this machine - which one do you have?
What is the issue you have with CQ that makes you think THE Drum is faulty?
Have you checked in SRV MODE to display the life of the Drum Units etc?
Have you cleaned the Laser Slit Glasses?

If you answered No to any of these questions - then ring your local Canon Dealer and save yourself a lot of time & money, I am sure the Church will understand - do you also service their Vehicles.

I figured it out. i got to the drum unit and replaced it. it was just the black drum catridge unit that went bad. the pages were printing ugly lines on every sheet. I swapped the drum out and it works fine. Printer actually works like new. I have fixed my printer and saved myself a few bucks that i can put into ministry. If the things you talk about are important why dont you post a step by step on how to do these things. The world would love a tutorial on how to properly maintain an office printer. I live in a small town with no access to repair company . Actually some of our nieghbors drive there printers to the shop a 2 hours up the road. I just did not have that type of time to do that. Plus we have no service contract. We own the printer. I had a few spare drums laying around. So i fixed it.

Because this is a forum for professional technicians to assist other professional technicians. Not a forum to teach ministers to do their own service, and drive the local tradesman out of business.

Why don't you start a forum to provide free religious education and shut down your church? Yes it is a valid analogy.
Better yet, why don't technicians just give away their services, and live on welfare? Is this what you want?

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
