I had the exact same thing happen to me on Friday, machine was working fine (except for magenta background) so I replaced the magenta drum then it starts throwing E020 error, cleaned the patch sensor, fitted the old Mag drum back still the same.

I updated the firmware & cleaned the dust glass/laser glass & the error went away.

I updated firmware and all good, thanks the advice

If you are in a pinch, I have swapped the drum chip with the old one and gotten away from this error.

I have a few of these units that will throw a E020-1x60 code on new drum installs and I have tried pretty well everything.

What works 100% for me is to use the old drum chip...pretty quick to swap.

Not the right way to do it, but hell these printers seem to find themselves in the worst places.

Yes swapping the drum chips works, but apparentley shortens the drum life

Hi,

I have had this issue twice this week, not sure why but both to do with Magenta on both machines and both times the magenta had leaked by a considerable amount, Ive taken the laser out and cleaned it, tried different drums, updated the firmware, dumped the DC and re entered values but still came up with the error, stick the old drum in and works fine apart from the PCQ, so last resort was to swap the drum chips over, works fine then, one thing i did notice, was that when I attempted to dump the DC and i pressed ok, restarted the Machine, it looked like the DC didnt clear, as all jam codes/error and other values were still in the machine, looking at the P print, none of the values had changed, so Ive ordered a DC controller, as I had this issue before and it turned out to be the DC, I will keep you updated as the part will be with me tomorrow.

What an awfull machine by Canon, IRC2380 series was a great model, a few modifications & if could have been perfect.

This is a cheap colour printer, pulverized toner, cheaply designed. Don't try to compare it to 5000 or 5200 series. When a customer goes from a Irc3380 to one of these, they have been downgraded

Replacing the chip from old drum to new drum is a cheat - not recommended

check wee clips are on springs at front and rear of ext trans unit (one white, one black)

Clean laser and patch sensors

new drum

Do T1 up in Service mode and then open and close door.

Vac out entrance to hopper and ensure sensors are clean . (one at each side of hopper opening)

Failing that new Laser and Full HVT will normally resolve

Changing the chip (the copper connector on the front) on the new drum to the one for the old drum will remove the error but may not fix the real issue

Take the laser assy out and give a good clean to mirrors/lens and polygon motor surfaces.

True, but if all reccomended solutions fail, ie. the machine cheats you, i cheat him back !

hi please don't change chip.you will come right now but only for abit.old problem will just come to new drum..for example.bk is light.u rep new drum but get err and u swop chip.will be fine for 3 or 4 days then after that new drum will become light.yes problem is laser.inside laser you must clean lens and poof problem will be sorted.

I've not seen the original problem coming back after swapping the chip.
