    Drum scoring IRC2380i

    Hello

Curious one, does anyone have any experience with black Canon OEM drums being scored, I mean the actual surface of the drum being removed?

I can see some excess toner, but I cant see any reason for it happening, this is the 2nd drum I have replaced within 6 weeks?

As always I thank you for you time and effort

    Thanks

    It is very rare.

I see it often on the iR series, where users push their drums to the limit and beyond.
On the iRC series, drum life is controlled by chip, so the users unfortunately CAN'T.

but still the saying "Canon - You Can !" does apply.

Thanks for the advice, it is odd, brand new OEM drum, about 20% used according to service counters., only occurring on the black drum.

The only thing I can think of it either something getting caught in the blade in the drum, or something perishing and causing foreign objects getting to the drum, the surface of the OPC is gone showing the white material underneath.

I am going to the client tomorrow to give is a very good clean, inspect the ITB, etc, then replace with another OEM black drum; as previously said I did notice some clumps of toner were I removed the drum to inspect it.

      Thanks

Check the Waste Toner shutter on the process unit for proper operation, it should open and close when you move the process drawer assembly lock handle, toggle between the lock and unlock positions and look for movement at the front of the drum assembly were the waste toner exits from the cleaning assembly. If there is no movement the coupling may be broken or the gearing may be stripped out, to decipher between which issue it is see if any of the couplings on all the drums are not or are moving, if they are not moving then there is a gearing issue then replace the process unit (FM2-9994-010 process unit) or the individual parts, if only one is an issue then replace the coupler assembly (FM2-5586-000 WASTE TONER 2 FEED ASSEMBLY)

Some feedback, I think this part of the forum is overlooked and is important, as researching previous posts you never see anything after the advice and your kinda sat there thinking what happened? Did you fix it?

Yes - verified the black waste toner shutter does not turn, so I have kind of mcguyvered it to remain open until I can get that one part in and replace....

Inspecting the mechanism it seems to be missing some plastic - according to the Parts manual, were I could simply refit the shutter, I managed to refit a cyan on another machine in my workshop that came off...

I have a similar issue on an IRC3580i with the black shutter in my workshop and it does look like fun to remove, NOT!! hopefully the Service manual will guide my screwdriver well

Thanks for the help guys, always appreciated
