Cano IPF5100 missing print (non-discharge in a train)

    Hi all

I attended an IPF5100 which was producing strange colour output.

After running the nozzle check pattern, the right printhead printout blocks was perfect however the Left print head blocks were completely missing - all of them, just a few smudges here and there.

I checked the ink tubes to make sure ink was getting to the head which it was.

Anyway, I recommeeded they replace the Left printhead.

They replaced the Left printhead after upgrading the firmware and run the nozzle check pattern again.

This time the Left print head block came out all except for one of the cyan colours in the 'B train'. Cleaning cycles made no difference.

I suspected it may be a bad printhead as all the other colours came out fine.

They replaced the LEft printhead again but the same outcome - the same cyan in the 'B train' was completely missing.

In the troubleshooting guide this is referred to a 'Total non-discharge in a train' and is an electrical fault.

I returned to site armed with the carriage relay PCB and flex cable. Neither solved the problem.

The only next step I can think of is to replace the main controller which is very expensive.

I am not 100% sure this is going to fix the problem and am anxious about spending so much money on a new controller!

Has anyone else experienced this before?

      Hi Teckat

        turn off the printer

clean the head contacts. Put head in - than put it out ( 3 times in a row)

        Turn on the printer.

If still the same than :

        Check for a disconnection between
flat cable ③a and contact pin ⑦

        than report back

          Thanks V-P

This has already been done, please note the carriage replay PCB and flex cable has already been replaced with no success. . . .

In these cases often happens smth called "cross contamination"

One defective part "contaminates" the other one linked to it.
A bad head can "burn" a carriage or a main board.

Of course you can measure the resistors in the mainboard and try to come up with some conclusion.

Usually when I suspect smth is not ok - I replace as a group to avoid "cross contamination" and customer frustration

But than it is mostly financial point of view.

                Thanks Teckat

Following T17 it would seem I have already cancelled continuity checks out and cleaning contact pins as I have replaced both flex cable and carriage relay PCB, the next suspect is the main controller!

                What are your thoughts?

So you would replace the carriage relay PCB, Flex cable and main controller in one go?

Re: Cano IPF5100 missing print (non-discharge in a train)

Yeah in most cases I do (it also depends on the customer).

There is also another factor - timing.

Unfortunately when I order a spare part it can take (not always) 1-3 weeks.

So imagine part after part the customer is waiting - and the more they wait the angrier they get.

I know it maybe not be the cheapest solution - but it is a safe and fast one.

Believe it or not - as far as I remember I had a lot more problems with main boards than I had with carriages

Is there a newer version of the LFP_TroubleShootingGuideE for the IPF8300 series?
