[Dead] Canon IR C3220 hard drive replacement?

I need to replace the hdd on a C3220 due to E602-0001 messages. Can I use any ide hdd or do I need it from Canon? What is the procedure and how do you get into safe mode for the format procedure ( manual mentions this)? Using SST do I format the new hdd which will setup the partitions then install the latest syst. software? If someone has detailed information to install the syst. software it would help me greatly.

try this first

Try a DEFRAG>

Hold down the 1 & 9 keys while turning the main power switch on and let the machine go through a disk defrag (should take about half an hour)
if this fails to go into download mode at finish> u need a new HDD

2-u use the SST to format the new HDD>

to get in SAFE MODE> u have printer off> then hold down #2&8 keys> while holding keys-power back the printer>hold keys until DOWNLOAD screen shows on menu>then release 2&8 keys-

u then connect laptop to printer> open SST> and do the FORMAT> after FORMAT> U THEN open the ALL-HDF> highlight the firmware ver.> that will open START BATCH DOWNLOAD in middle menu > select it- and all the needed firmware will be downloaded

I was wondering if this guy got it to work I have the same printer that the HD failed I went threw some of the steps here and stoped at the Download updates.. I was womdering if I could buy a HD off ebay that was in another coiper and that will work..

It may if it has the correct software on it. Unfortunately canon hard drives have to be from canon. Maybe more people here can tell you more about that but any hard drive will not work.

All purchased HDD's need to be formatted inside the Printer using SST and printers format file

I use(d) Seagates on them. You need to modify the ift file in the HD Format to make the non Canon HDD work. Copy and paste properties and increase counter by one....been a while since I've done one.....

Not for this model. HD Format is not encrypted....I use non Canon drives in these all the time..

Latest firmware for this machine is September of 2008... V 90.03 I think. The file is about 135 MB or so, so I doubt anyone can email it to you.

hello! Nice topic . i have te sst software can anyone povide a link to the canon firmware i have an canon ir c3320i
