    Operate iRC3200N from keypad?

Hi, I was recently given a Canon iRC3200N for free, which, while it has seen better days, appears operational so far..

The biggest problem with it is that the glass panel for the touch screen has several fractures across the width of the screen from a point behind the bezel off to the left which appears to have rendered it completely unresponsive to touch. All the keypad buttons work fine and the image on the screen is clear, I can get into the first level of some menus, and the first level of service mode no problem, but can't figure out a way to get any further, are there any tricks to achieve basic operations via the keypad without use of the touch screen? I really only need to be able to achieve the most basic functions but am not sure how I can get it set up on the network initially without access to the systems menus..

Thanks a lot for your help

    Anthony

Surprisingly, the cracked digitizer is cheap. $39.95 from Precision roller, they are one of the advertisers here.

Hi thanks for reply, though I make it $139.95 unless that is for whole assembly, in which case I couldn't spot the digitizer separately? Regardless unfortunately I am in the UK and it is rather harder to source over here.. The problem is I am loathe to spend any money on it at all until I have at least been able to check whether it will print a test page, which so far I have been unable to do without the screen.

I have been fiddling with network scanning software to see if I can track down what IP, if any, it is using as I understand there is a remote interface if I can gain access to it. I think I may have traced the IP so if anybody knows how that works that might help?

Unfortunately I am now finding then when I switch printer on it is getting to the loading screen and filling up less than 10% of bar before the screen goes blank then a minute or so later this will repeat.. maybe I have upset some other delicate aging internal by rebooting it so many times

Ooops, yea the price is just $39.95 with an account, which actually is really easy to get. But yes I also hate throwing good money towards bad so caution is in order here. Anyhow, the problem with the boot-up doesn't sound good, maybe unplug and restart the copier from cold, apparently they don't like to be switched off half way through a boot-up sequence which you may have inadvertently done.

boot sequence sounds bad. try flashing the machine. if that does not work, replace hard drive and flash, then dimm memory card and then main controller. to get the ip address of the machine type arp -a in your cmd prompt and use the first six of the mac address to determine the manufacturer. then type the ip in browser address bar.

Hi sharptech1, thanks for your reply.

I have not yet tried booting the machine again since my previous post as I have been busy, but hopefully leaving it off for a while will be all that was needed! As I really want to avoid spending any money until I know it will print at all. Is there perhaps any way of teasing a test page out of it with a key combination or something?

I was afraid you might say that all that you do is navigate browser to IP as I tried that and it just timed out (although to be fair that was without guaranteeing I had the right IP address). Should the remote UI be accessible as soon as machine is booted? The screen (when it boots) shows some sort of status screen with (from my memory) Scanner, Printer and Network RX and some other stuff, which is waiting for me to hit 'Done' or whatever to confirm, but obviously with broken screen I can't, so maybe it hasn't finished booting so hasn't loaded remote UI server until after this screen?

I will try to boot it when I get home, if it boots I'll try what you said to get IP and try to connect, failing that I'll post a photo of the screen in question...

            Thanks all for your help!

See post #3 in the thread, keeping on rebooting the machine without the proper shut down which as you know needs the touch panel can lead to boot problems

If you boot up holding the 1+7 keys together this will get you into fixip mode which is always 172.16.1.100 with subnet mask at 255.255.255.0. You should now be able to hook your laptop up and get into the RUI if all else is good. You can then change the IP address to what you want.

Hope this helps a little more.

                        Re: Operate iRC3200N from keypad?

                        Hi again all

So I'm finally coming back to this, after life got in the way for almost a year.. (the copier has been "furniture" for all this time!)

Huge thanks to those that helped already - I've made some progress. But now I seem to have hit a brick wall, hoping for some more help from some of you kind and knowledgeable souls

I am running SST ver 4.72E, laptop is connected directly to copier via crossover ethernet cable. Copier boots into 2 8 download mode fine, I can ping it, and at least some functions in SST certainly appear to be working correctly. Also boots into 1 9 and appears to complete without any errors then enters download mode.

HDFORMAT claims to work fine, though I'm a little confused what I should be expecting to see - looking through the iRC3200-XXxx0022-HDFormat.ift file seems to suggest that after completion I should be expecting to see all 5 partitions present on drive, but it shows none, is this right? Also not seeing anything happening on the copier screen when doing this, just still says "Download Mode" ..

I then run ALL_HDF_N (since this is a C3200N) which, in order, wants to apply:

                        restart 2 8
                        Download iRC3200N_Boot_XXxx0606
                        restart 2 8
                        Download iRC3200_Boot_XXxx7001
                        Download iRC3200_SYSTEM_USen9003
                        Download iRC3200_Language_XXen9003
                        Download iRC3200_RUI_XXen7904
                        restart 1 7
                        Download iRC3200_DCON_XXxx3802
                        restart 1 7
                        Download iRC3200_RCON_XXxx0401
                        restart

Boot 0606 fails, with Error Code 124 "Internal Error" any idea what this means? (and copier screen shows "Download Failed.")

I have tried restarting copier (2 8 again) and resuming from where it left off, so skipping Boot 0606, and the next 4 items appeared to complete succesfully, but now when restarting with 1 7 the screen never even lights up, same if I try a normal boot (so I guess it's more broken than it was before!) - it makes all its usual mechanical start up noises, but never shows anything on screen, and does not respond to ping.

2 8 still works, and I have tried starting again from scratch quite a few times with no joy.

Also when running HDFORMAT again to start from scratch, there is now one Partition visible, /BOOTDEV, and formatting all doesn't remove this or add others.. is it really even doing anything?

If I try to run iRC3200N BOOT XXxxv0606 on its own, the same error comes up.

                        Have also tried running
ALL_N - gives same error (actually it runs the exact same set of commands.. just doesn't say ", Set for HDFormat" in "Desc")
both ALL_HDF_C and iRC3200 BOOT XXxxv0606 on its own - both say wrong device or something, as expected

So what's to blame, the firmware, HDFORMAT, the boot ROM, or the hard drive? Or something else? Me?

                        Help!!!!

Huge huge thanks to anyone that can shed any light on this!

                        Anthony

Oh also, forgot to mention, before trying any of this I removed and reseated the two memory sticks, the boot ROM, and the HDD ribbon cable. No change in behaviour, but nothing visually wrong at least (so hopefully didn't get damp after all)..
