IRC3220 installation of N2 saddle stitch finisher?

Customer called and wants me to attach their saddle stitch(N2) finisher to IRC3220. Supposedly they moved and it was never reattached. I am not familiar with the installation. I was there one day and installed the connector to machine and moved N2 up against machine. Machine did not acknowledge connection. I don't know if there is something missing.
I have IRC3200 series SM but it does not go into installation of the finishers. I have been trying without success to get some kind of installation guide. Any assistance in this would be very much appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Funny but these things just connect and go. I assumed that you completely unpowered the copier first so that it could reboot with the finisher being acknowledged on startup. Also I assume that you plugged it into the right connection port, I can't remember if there are any other connection points that appear to be the same style for things such as the lower cassettes or ? Also finally all of these finishers also need to key into a shaft that is mounted on the copier, with the irc3220 it's towards the rear of the sorter where it mates with the copier. I'd probably have a closer look at the sensor/switch inside the copier that does detect just that, I've seen them not work properly due to being bent. These things really are straight foereward most times.

Thanks for your response Alex and Ron. I don't remember if I shut down the machine when I caonnected the finisher. I do not remember seeing any shaft as I looked carefully for anything to accomodate the finisher. I can't see there being a sensor problem. If there was is might suggest that the machine was indeed acknowledging the finisher and it is not doing that.
For now I am trying to gather as much info and possibly specific instructions regarding installtion of N2 finisher. I expected the machine to immediately recognize the finisher and was surprised it did not but maybe I should have shut down machine first as you suggested.
I will report back when mission is completed. Frank

Re: IRC3220 installation of N2 saddle stitch finisher?

I went back today and it is an N2 finisher. I noticed right away the the latch plate with the shaft or pin you mention was not on left side of machine. You just can't trust what the customer says as they told me they were using it at other location. Unless there was a problem with it and the company that was servicing them before me disconnected it and the customer is not telling me.
I was wondering Ron that if that plate with the shaft is not on will that cause the machine not to acknowledge the cable connection to machine? I thought it would still no it was connected but give me an error message. I lifted the finisher cover to see if machine would say open cover but it didn't.
Do you think that installing that plate would make the difference or does it appear that something else is wrong? Thanks for your help and advice. Frank

Cheat the switch. ( A piece of paper, screwdriver, door key etc.)
If that does not work, the finisher controller is blown.

Thanks Vigour. I have been getting a little more information and I saw the power cord to the machine cabinet but I do not recall seeing another power cord(FF6-2185-000) in one of the 3 outlets next to it. I understand that the smaller power cord is plugged into one of those outlets and then to machine as the finisher gets power through the machine from the cabinet. This would mean the finisher is not getting power and may not be acknowledged by machine because of that. Please correct me if I am wrong.Frank

Thanks again Mark. I don't know how I missed that post. I think I Have a cord like that though longer but I need to order the latch plate anyway. This was very helpful. Frank
