Sorry boss, and I know this isn't an argument forum, but I must disagree with you there. I worked on this model primarily for Canon for several years, and had 100's of them in my territory. Many times after all the solutions that we've discussed in this thread get you nowhere, DCON clear is the only way out. Yes you have to input all ADJUST values back into Service Mode based on your P-Print, but as long as you do that you should be OK. This machine just can't recover when something goes wrong with setting up the registration!

      not an argument
i never advise to clear DCON or RCON unless poster has an understanding what is involved when doing so. / & most of the original inserted factory P Prints are missing from inside printer cover-

i had many in-house accounts with over 200 of these 5180 series in each building to monitor & service -
the manual removal of Lasers & position adjustments worked about 80/85% of the time for paper feed (sub-scan) alignment issues-

another thing about doing a DCON clear/ u may clear one issue only to discover u have created another issue (even when u put back those unreliable settings) those settings in P PRINT do not always reflect all the correct adjustments-/ unless u checked all listed before clearing--
**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**

Absolutely, and most techs you talk to will short-cut every time. My point was with this model, you may fix it with one of the normal troubleshooting steps, but if they don't help the DCON clear may be necessary. Another pitfall is when the tech is replacing laser units they may not update the Factory pink sheets with the new data on the label, then perform DCON clear and input the wrong info...

try removing the itb unit and reinstalling it, when you reinstall ITB unit, lower the pattern reader down first before you turn the intermediate transfer unit release lever. (color missregistration may occur if pattern reader is not seated down correctly.)
          Do a test print PG6

repeat this 3 times if needed.
