    ira5xxx waste toner failure

hi Peeps, anyone got a sure fire way to a) prevent failure of the waste toner mech on these b) how to stop the new units failing as much(again)

have read all the ati's,bullentins etc - but it seems your at the mercy of the machine.

I've got our guys vac'ing them out out every visit as precaution but the coil/spring is now failing A LOT - and the new one's that have been incorrectly assemble are a pita/russian roulette

    your input mucho appreciated....

I always fit a brand new waste toner bottle & never get a call back, you can never effectively clean out the old ones, a find a small amount of toner will drop into the window & block the sensor & you will get the waste toner full message again.

I never replace them...never had an issue. Open the shutter, turn the auger to dump everything out. Tip it vertical and tap on it and get all the toner at the one end. Remove the plastic window, clean it with alcohol and a clean cloth(anything else will cause toner from clouding inside to stick to it). Re-assemble. Have never had an issue, ever. There was a bulletin about auger issues, but i've never had one

Why bother emptying them such a messy job & looks unprofessional? They are so cheap just simply ship to the customer to fit & saves a wasted call out!?

Cheap? About 30 bucks a pop...i have customers that go through 1 or 2 a month....times 500 customers. Do the math. 30 times 500 equals 15000 dollars...per month. Aftermarkets are 20 bucks a pop.....10000 dollars. Must be rich where you work. I keep 2 spare at each machine, customer sticks old one in box(carefully),calls me when they put the last one in.

$30 busks is cheap, or the $20 one & if the customer is getting through 2-3 a month they must be doing the clicks so you must be billing them a lot!?
However in at my last company we charged the customer for all toner & waste bottles as they are classed as consumables!

I guess it's only real canon engineers that don't empty these bottles out, what a horrible job having to do that all day! like being a chimney sweep I guess!?

We are not engineers.....engineers design. In Canada, you can not use the title "Engineer" unless you have a degree in Engineering and 5 years experience. Do you get your hands dirty doing other things to service copiers?... Trust me...engineers don't. At any rate, just keep doing what you want....

Yeah in The UK we're engineers, the guys than actually built the copiers are design engineers! A technician is kind of like an electrician.

                          Hi,

never had a cleaner assy break for no reason. Had the same issue and found that the spiral in the waste toner bottle wasn't turning because the little white flag that spins the spiral inside the bottle fell off, thus the spiral doesn't spin and push the toner towards the end of the container. Because of this the toner backs up through the waste toner system, puts a load on the spring, inside the cleaner assy and then the spring pushes out of its assy.

replace it, clean it (if it inst beneath you) and check for the white flag.........

                          peace....

Ourselves, we bill staples and waste toner bottles. The rest are on the clicks. I don't necessarily agree with it but it saves me from wasting half my day emptying out bottles. Other than that we just bill ticks as normal. We have some customers going through 2-3 times a week so it's much easier for them to change the waste toner bottles and be off and running with as little downtime as possible. I personally don't understand why they didn't throw a massive cleanable bottle like the irc adv 7000's but that's not my call.
