I notice that either when IRA 2020 drums go like you said you get lines, or a wash of toner on the page, supposedly the downstream brush becomes ineffective at removing toner on the cleaning cycle.

I have had mixed success with the upstream brush adjustments.

Depending on the drum life, I have had to set and then replace the drum (mainly black), then the issue doesn't return as quickly.

This machine seems like it was an experiment for Canon.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm trying to deal with the residual/ghost image problem in an ir2020. I want to adjust the upstream brush, but HV-PRI isn't listed in the COPIER->ADJ menu.

I'm not a trained copier tech, but I'm supporting this printer down in Antarctica (where its particularly dry, and a humidifier isn't seeming to help) and can't exactly have a Canon tech show up at the front door! I have a new drum on order but these things take a while, so any ideas/input would be very much appreciated!!

          Drum Ghost

          😎
As the residual toner accumulated on the Upstream Brush increases, potential cannot be equalized when outputting solid white and solid black after transferring to the ITB so that the failure occurs. This may cause a "Drum Ghost".

          ====)

          1. This issue can also be caused by the HEAVY STOCK CALIBRATION not being applied.
This feature needs to be enabled first in service mode.
          a. Enable in service mode Level 1 > COPIER > OPTION > DISPLY-SW > HPFL-DSP to 1
          b. Heavy Stock appears in AUTO ADJUST GRADATION.
          c. Calibrate HEAVY stock, even if not used.

          2. Specify the color with which ghost occurs by visual check

          3. Increase the level of Upstream DC bias by 1
          (L2) COPIER>ADJUST>HV-PRI>USUB-xDC

          4. If the trace of Upstream Brush has not disappeared, decrease the level of Upstream DC bias by 1

          5. Decrease the amount of toner deposit
          (L2) COPIER>OPTION>IMG-MNCON>TNR-DWN

          6. If the issue still persists, replace the Drum Unit of the specific color

          7. Return the service mode setting value to the default.

            Thanks for responding so quickly!
My question is in regards to: #3. Increase the level of Upstream DC bias by 1
            (L2) COPIER>ADJUST>HV-PRI>USUB-xDC

When I am in the COPIER>ADJ menu, HV-PRI is not listed with the other sub-menus. The other ADJ options listed in the manual (BLANK, MISC, etc) are all accounted for. But no HV-PRI or HV-TR. Any idea why or how I could find those settings?

              -------------------------------------------

u have to go into SERVICE MODE > LEVEL 2
By pressing <LEVEL 1> at the upper right of the screen while Level 1 screen is displayed, the
              screen is switched to
              Level 2 screen.

Re: Black Drum unit premature failure in iR Advance 2020

Thank you for this!! When I increase the USUB-KDC, the DIS-TGK and the 1TR-TGK1 to +3 or even +5, the result is much darker wavy lines running up and down the page. I had better success lowering them (to -3 or -5), as I'd read in some posts on this forum, but the result was still better when I left them alone, at 0. I did change the setting in Service Mode (level 2) > COPIER > Option > IMG-FIX > NEGA-GST to "1", though the difference it made is negligible. I have a new drum on order so hopefully that'll do the trick when it eventually gets here. Thanks again for your help.
