    Canon 3180ci Jam on startup

Can anyone advise on a problem i'm have with a Canon 3180ci reporting there is a paper jam during startup? - weird thing is there is no jam, following the onscreen procedure cleans the problem and the machine goes back to warming up after closing side access door,i half expected to see paper jammed in the fuser but nothing.Seems its reporting an error that isn't there, any help is greatly appreciated.

jam code listed in service mode

check sensor Supply V on PS14 /Fixing inlet sensor = Supply voltage should be 3.3v
    and it's Signal V = Proper voltage for non-actuated is approximately 0V

    also check it's Sensor Flag

PS14 is a know issue for false jams in this series

Also if the machine doesn't pick up the paper it will show jam & ask you to open all the doors to clear it, but obviously there will be no jam present.

The machine makes a check to see that there is no paper over the following sensors before it starts initial multiple
        rotation at power-on:

        Sensor
        Cassette 1 retry sensor (PS25)
        Cassette 2 retry sensor (PS26)
        Pre-registration sensor (PS7)
        Inside delivery sensor (PS1)
        No. 1 delivery sensor (PS27)
        Duplex paper sensor (PS10)

          add functions > 2+8 > add functions > copier > Display > Jam
Need a code to point you in the right direction

Many thanks for your responses - i will check for a jam code as soon as i can.

Have checked jam code and is showing as 0A06

                LIKE I POSTED

STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE PRINTER-= OBSERVATION

When right side door was closed intermittently a 0A06 code would occur at power on. The right side door could be opened and closed and the jam could be cleared. During a copy run a 0206 jam code would occur intermittently. Performed a check of the three sensors PS14, PS2 and PS16 in the feeder frame assembly and found that PS14 Supply voltage was at 3.3v which is present but the signal voltage was 2.51 in non actuated state and 3.0 in actuated stated. Proper voltage for non-actuated is approximately 0V. Replaced PS14 and phantom jam condition was resolved.

During the copy or print operation or in standby the copier would go into a 0A06 or 0206 jam code. This jam code indicates a faulty PS14, 16 or 2 sensor. When the right side door was opened to remove the indicated jam no paper was present in the paper path. The jam code would intermittently be unrecoverable causing the imageRUNNER C3380 to be non operational.

A voltage check of sensor PS14 found that the signal line voltage was not changing state from 0V non actuated and was holding a voltage of 3V non actuated or actuated.

A voltage check of PS14/16 or 2 can be made by removing the right side panel next to the right door and exposing the intermediate connector J1192L(6 purple wires). Consult the imageRUNNER C3380 service manuals wire diagram from proper pin layout.

To resolve the issue a replacement of PS14 was required.

PS14 Fixing inlet sensor part number is WG8-5772-000.

Thanks for that,i take it these sensors just have a limited life span? the machine is quite low mileage around 66,000.

Cheap photo-interrupts. Just like delivery sensors on advanced 5030 series,2030 bypass, etc.
