    IR2270 Keys not working

I have an IR2270 that the Asterisk and # keys are not working. I've been told they give feedback in "test mode", however when trying to use them under normal use, it's almost as they're blocked by some setting.

Is there a way to restrict use of certain keys on Canon copiers? If so, any help in removing this would be much appreciated.

I'm a Ricoh, Lexmark, HP certified tech, I just have very little experience in Canon MFPs.

    Thanks!

      Re: IR2270 Keys not working

Most of the time hard key problems on all manufacturers have one of three solutions:

      1) Scurf has dropped down in the cracks around the button and prevents it from actuating properly. Disassemble the panel to clean out any dirt around the buttons with Q-tip and cleaner.
      2) Enduser has broken the button through rough use. Check that too while you're in there.
      3) The momentary switch on the PWB has clicked it's rated 10,000 clicks, and is just worn out. Meter out the switch to confirm that it closes to 0 ohms when pressed. I've seen 79 ohms and much higher. If it's not 0 ohms when pressed, replace the switch or PWB, your choice.

That being said, in fax mode sometimes certain keys are not functional. This may apply here. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

The * and # Keys are normally only used in FAX Mode - try entering a number in Fax Mode using the * first and # last - if no joy then it will be switches/plastic keys broken or PCB.

In service mode....copier/function/panel/key-chk.......do they work properly when you test them in service mode? TEST in service mode has nothing to do with this. Sometimes the switches go bad...like previously stated....

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to damage the switch # and * because there is no use for them in normal use
I used to replace any bad switch with one of them, if i haven't new one in car kit store

              Test with the following
              IN SERVICE MODE:

If the key is normal, the text for it appears in the touch panel.

              Off and on the machine.
              This you should work

You obviously don't have the same customers as mine. I've had * and # keys give out on me. People do stupid things while they wait for their copies, had one client who would just spam the shit out of # whlst she waited for her copies. Not impossible, just hard to do.
