I have a Canon Imagepress C6000 witch appears to be working perfectly. The problem is when running large black and white jobs my CMY toner level keep going down. I seems that the toner is being ran directly into the waste toner bottle. I am selecting greyscale in the Fiery rip. The counters also show that I am running Black prints. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Using CMY Toner when printing Black & White
All colour printers on the market do a form of steganography. Printer steganography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Also the machine is stopping, doing an auto grad adjustment and then continuing. This will use toner as well. -

Are u a tech or end user ?
Ask because > when u select Greyscale > either from using a Fiery print driver or a Print kit driver, this selection always uses a small amt. of CMY toner.
If you have Black only selection in Print driver > that will use Black toner only.
During long runs Color printers > depending how initalazation is set up [500 or 1000 prints/copies] this uses CMYK patches on ITB for image stabalization .**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

canon is a newsletter that lets you work only in black and white and the other developing units CMY not rotate and so do not provide toner, say .....

Re: Using CMY Toner when printing Black & White
Another issue. I am running a black job, the magenta ran out, it will not let me continue to run black only prints. Not even to make a black and white copy. The manual says you can continue running black even if CMY are empty.Comment

Re: Using CMY Toner when printing Black & White
It is possible to configure the device to use print Black Only Mode
The device must have System Software version 50.84 or higher, in order for this Function / Feature to be possible.
When printing long runs of Black Toner, the Starter spills from the Yellow, Magenta and the Cyan (YMC) Developing Assemblies. Even though YMC Toner is being used to print the job the YMC Developing Assemblies are still rotating and the Toner and Starter begin to degrade causing
To configure the Canon device to use print Black Only Mode perform the following steps:
Enter service mode (level 2)
select COPIER
select OPTION
select BODY
select DEV-SP1
configure Bit 0 to a value of 1
select OK
press RESET to exit service mode
do u know how to get into LEVEL 2

Printing with Black only Mode
The Black Only Mode Feature is only effective with jobs that are pure Black.
If a job is sent from the RIP(Fiery Server) with any Color pages and the Driver Setting is set to “Auto-detect” or “Color”, the imagePRESS will print in Color Mode.
Also, if a Job is printed that includes a mixture of Black only and Color pages, and the Black only pages are at the beginning of the Job, a production lapse of up to three minutes may be experienced.
Example: The Job sent to be printed is made up of 10 pages, the first two Black only the rest Color, and multiple sets are selected the Job will print as follows:
• The Job will start in Black only Mode, for pages one and two.
• The imagePRESS will cycle down before printing pages three though ten, approximately three minutes.
• Pages three through ten will print in Color Mode, as will the remainder of the Job. Including pages one and two of the remaining sets.
The imagePRESS will not switch back to Black Only Mode until the next Black only Job is printed.
Please follow the steps below to ensure the Black & White is being used effectively.

GOOD READ
Black Processing
Conventionally, the ON/OFF setting is made by specifying Use pure black for Text and Graphics. In this version, however, you can select from
rich black/pure black/normal in Black Processing.
In the Printer Driver, Command WorkStation, and Hot Folders, use Expert Color Settings under Print Options to turn this function on and off.
-Pure Black
Prints with K 100%. Same as the existing ON setting.
-Rich Black
Reproduces Rich Black with K 100% + C 50%.
