I have a canon fax L80 that refuses to recognize the cartridge. Tried another cartridge without success. I have no manual so am shooting blind.
Any suggestions?
Ron
I've only worked on a couple of these, and not for cartidge problems.
The faxLC9000 was well known for giving toner empty indications, when the cartridge was full. Inside the cover over the cartridge there was a plastic feature that pressed two levers to raise the toner sensor up to the bottom of the cartridge. The fix was to install a few #10 flat washers between the feature and the cover (the feature was screwed on).
Based on this, I would look into exactly how the toner sensor is positioned, and if it has a mechanism to raise it, and how. I would doubt that the sensor itself was faulty, just the positioning.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
Turns out it WAS the sensor. I took it out and was able to activate it with a weak magnet. The cartridge had no affect. I adjusted the ferrite core inside the sensor just a tad and it started working.
Thanks for all the help.
