    HELP! Canon IR C2880/E990 code

HI, I saw previous posts with this problem and tried to follow service manual to access gear assembly and sensor to see what was happening.I got as far as the last step(remove the hopper supply unit). The unit is loosened but will not pull out.The manual says REMOVE the 4 supply drive shaft,1 claw each.I don't know what they mean by Remove.I unlatched each of the 4 white levers from what I think is the supply drive shaft for each color.but cant actually remove them .Is it possible shafts are whats preventing me from removing hopper supply unit. Its hard to tell but I think I took out al screws that I needed to.I don't have experience with this so I may be overlooking something obvious. If you have experience with this procedure please help. Thanks Andy

Yes this is a nasty fault, most likely is it is simply the shutter sensor is full of toner, but getting to that sensor to clean it is difficult.

The shafts are the 4x black shutters under the drums, the first time it took out the hopper unit I left these shafts attached.

If you have a can of compressed air you can just about reach near the sensor & blow it clean, however the best way, if you have space etc is to remove the process unit, take out the 4 toners, drums, waste box & remove the front cover above the waste toner, then take that comple unit outside & give it a good blow out with an air compressor etc, I know this is not always practical, but I have also had some success doing it with a powerful vacuum cleaner.

Hi, Thanks for responses,Maybe with a fresh look on a different day Ill be able to figure out,.Just to be sure though, the shafts are released by unhooking the white retainers? They are not actually removed though BEFORE you attempt to remove unit? They are just released? Thank you ANDY

          Hi Andy
I recently had exactly same problem. An error E000099. I went to service manual and remove drive assembly as instructed but when I got to toner hopper suppy unit the diagram was not recognizable to me as it was my first call on this series IRC2880/3380/ . It looked like machine had already been gutted, I looked under unit figuring that was the way to remove the 4 drive shafts but could not figure it out. There were 4 white spring loaded shafts that i attempted to reposition , thinking i could then remove the supply drive shafts but it just was not obvious to me.
I spent more time then i want to admit. I tried to pull out the hopper unit and it was resistant more so on the left side. I saw no screws left unremoved and was pretty frustrated. I used can of air as best i could and reassembled machine. I was fortunate that the E0099 was gone after reassembly. The problem is i feel it could come back any day.
If someone can be more clear on removing the supply drive shafts and hopper Andy and i would both appreciate it. Frank/Action Photocopy

You can get at it by just moving the hopper assy forward a little.

Did one last week without removal. Moved it enough to blow out the sensor. Have replaced 2 for being faulty though.

Fixing this fault is all about good strong air pressure!

HI, I returned today to customer and I was able to remove unit.I was able to do this after I removed drums from machine. The manual never said anything about taking out drums, but this made all the difference. There however is one problem.I noticed that as I was about to reinstall cyan hopper driver unit back into machine, the shaft where unit holds the two gears in place was very loose.I think it was like this when I removed drive unit as it the slides easily off.are shafts prinned on or screwed on thru back,i didn't finish job as I didn't feel like taking apart again THANKS ANDY

Yes you must take all drums & toners out fitst.

Those shafts simply clip in place, they are a bit flimsy
