    iR C5185 problems...

    Hi Everyone,

The company I worked for recently inherited an used iR C5185 and I am trying to get it working. After configuring it I have 2 problems:

    - For a while i was able to scan to SMB but it stopped working, I keep getting error 751. The share is on a Windows 2008 R2 server, everything seems to be configured right and I have done a lot of troubleshooting, after some research found that this is a common problem related to Windows SMB v1 protocol, a lot of people recommends upgrading the firmware as there may be a fix for the protocol included... I do not even know if the firmware on the printer is old or not, but seems like is not as easy as regular printers and involves getting Canon SST software and latest firmware, which are not publicly available... does anyone know if my firmware is very old and if upgrading it could really help on this issue?

    Version Information

    7
    9206.7801.6601
    601.301
    501.0.502.0.0

    - The second problem is that the printer seems to need calibration, when printing with colors it looks awful as they are not properly aligned (I can post a scan if necessary). Maybe the printer got hit on transport or something. Is this something that can be fixed with software? is there any way to run a calibration utility or procedure, or will this require some kind of mechanical service? I could not find anything on the user interface or web interface for this...

It seems to me like everything in this printer is designed so you have to pay a Canon shop top $$$ for service even just to get them to diagnose a simple issue... Maybe someone here have some suggestion / guidance?

    Thanks a lot!

Reminder Note== the Fix UNIT cost 800/1000 US to replace/ no fix in field--

#751 Errors When Trying to Send via SMB
An SMB send job can fail with error code #751 if the user enters forward slashes (/) when specifying the destination. Back slashes (\) must be used when specifying the destination, not forward slashes (/).

      Correct example:

      Host Name: \\192.168.1.33\share

      Incorrect example:

      Host Name: //192.168.1.33/share

We have also seen examples where you get a #751 error if a software based firewall is enabled on the target computer. Try disabling the firewall and retest the SMB send job. If the file gets sent successfully with the firewall disabled an exception will need to be made in the settings of the firewall program.

In addition, a #751 code can occur if the destination computer that you are attempting to send to is not running SMB. For example, if you attempt to send via SMB to a NetWare Server that is not configured for CIFS, it will fail with a #751 code.

        Re: iR C5185 problems...

Here is a brief summary of the various SMB versions and where they live in Windows Operating Systems.

SMB 1 : This may not be an exact classification as it was the default version used in Windows Operating Systems prior to Windows Vista.

SMB 2.0 : This was one of the enhancements included with Windows Vista. In short, the aim of this was to reduce the amount of traffic generated by commands which are used as part of the normal operation of SMB traffic.

        SMB 2.1 :
This version showed up on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 with a new Opportunistic Locking Mechanism. Opportunistic locking is a feature that locks files and handles local caching of files in order that other users do not modify files at the same time. This feature is applies to other Windows Operating systems, but has been improved for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2.

SMB 3.0 : Windows 8 and Server 2012 use this version of SMB which includes the capability of SMB Direct Protocol, otherwise known as SMB over RDMA. Also included was something called Multichannel which supports multiple connections for an SMB session.

SMB 3.2 : This is part of the feature set included with Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.

If for some reason a "push scan" to a computer running a Windows Operating System fails, please obtain the error code to help facilitate troubleshooting. If it is known that the Operating System being used has newer versions of SMB, please refer to KB 87403
