If I'm interpreting this correctly, when you call the Canon fax, something else is answering the phone before the fax does.

And that's your answer. Something else is picking up the line before the fax can answer.

I came across this exact situation at a bank that has some sort of alarm system sharing the line with the fax. The AC power had been lost over the weekend and the modem for the alarm system had reset to it's default, (1) ring. The fax answers on (2) rings. So guess who takes all the receptions? The computer modem.

They asked me to please disconnect the offending modem. I told them I could not, would not touch equipment relating to their alarm system. That's up to the alarm system people. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Are you able to transmit? It's possible that an enduser turned off Auto Reception. If the machine is set to Manual Reception or Answ. Machine it will never answer unless the Start key is pressed to initiate reception. =^..^=

I don't understand. Can you rephrase your question?
