    Canon Fax Driver Meter Count

    Hello,

I have a question regarding Canon's fax drivers that allow you to fax from the PC.

Currently my company has several customers (law firms) that charge their clients for faxes. What they have to do though is print out the documents and then fax them after they are done printing. What we are hoping to do was help them cut out a few steps and that is where I'm at now. The Canons they are using are mostly C5045s, C5240s, C7055s with the workstations running Windows 32&64 bit.

The counters that I have tried and tested out are: 301, 302, 305, 306, 331, 332, 701, 702, 942, 944, 956. None of these counters worked. 701/702 I found out is for receiving faxes which they do not need. 944 is what I thought would be the winner but it does not count any of the faxes sent by the fax driver. In fact, most of these counters would count faxes sent by fax driver as the same for when printing through the print drivers. Fax drivers and print drivers seem to count as the same meter.

Does anyone know if there is a specific counter that is just for faxes sent by the fax driver? Or does ImageWare have the ability to count faxes sent from fax drivers?

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I can see where the counters would neglect an entirely electronic document. It's worth counting if it involves a scan. It's worth counting if it uses a sheet of paper. But if it goes from an electronic source to an electronic destination where is the paper usage? No paper used means no count. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That thought did cross my mind and I was afraid that would most likely be the case. I did realize after posting this that I forgot to run any tests using different department IDs. I'll be trying this in the morning and will post if that made any difference.

I had been looking into the imageWARE software but was hoping to find any possible free solution first before letting our customer know that such a product must be purchased. I take it from your post that the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Tracker software probably will not do the trick. I'll look into the other options you mentioned.
*Were you referring to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Tracker when you posted " / ADVANCE Tracker" ?
        Many thanks.

Okay I do have an update.

I was able to achieve my goal, it's not as clean cut as using imageWARE or another tracking program but it'd have to do for now lol.

I had to turn on Department IDs on the copier and then set it to limit the functions for fax, that way the copier's display screen would show a log in screen.

After installing both print/fax drivers, I had the drivers get the device status which set them up for Department IDs.

On the copier, I went into service mode and added the counters 942 & 944.

So now when I fax from the PC it shows up on the job list as a fax sent from a PC (has user ID) and it has the Department ID. When faxing from the copier, you have to enter in a Department ID which is how it tracks it from the copier. Then set the copier to print out fax reports. I do have anyone question regarding this portion.

From within Status Monitor/Cancel --> Send --> Job Log
-Is there any way to increase the number of job logs you can see and store from here? The one I am working on stores about 90-100 as default. Is there a way to store more? Just curious.

Hopefully I can get my hands on other software in the future but for the time being, this will just have to work lol.

If anyone sees any way of improving this, please let me know. I've been a tech for many years but this is my first year for working on pure copiers/printers. It's been fun but wow talk about dry reading lol.

It sounds as though you've put together a credible workaround. If they want more than that, they'll have to buy the Equitrack. =^..^=
