Yes it does work for the C224 series also. We order the black drumd and chip them with the CMY chips when necessary.

      Hi there,

We also use the black drums in the colour sockets and using colour chips to reset the counters. We also reset the developer units and we suffer no developer depletion and we run the units to twice their life. Massive savings all round !!!!!!!

The same chip can be used for all of the following devices and pretty much halves your cost of the colour drum

Dont need to bother with the chips for drum & dev unit can simply turn off the warning in CE mode.
All you do when fitting a black drum as colour is to use the old chip.

Except for the fact that the machine adjusts for a new drum when you install it. If you don't at least use a new chip the machine won't know it is a new drum and therefore can't make those necessary adjustments.

Jip drum aging adjustment is a factor. The increased charge will fry the new drum surface.

Rubbish, a good tech can monitor print quality & replace drums etc as required, why replace an imaging unit when it is printing perfectly?

No not what i meant. it needs to be reset if you install a new drum. you can reset old drums along as the quality is still OK.
The machine changes the voltages as some of the parts gets older to compensate for quality loss.

Resting drum and dev counts and other counters on production machines is critical.

Rubbish, a good tech knows that the machine adjust voltages as drums age. He/she doesn't skimp on service just to save a couple bucks for the price of a drum chip.

So do you think this can cause dev depletion? If the drum counters are never reset and the old chip just stays on the drum?

I've seen a lot of black devs deplete there dev but its always been due to cheap toner which wasnt replenishing the dev. We have left old chips on machines for years with no ill effects. We check drums on regular call outs and replace when necessary but usually just leave old chips on except black.

Hi, what settings do I change in service mode to turn off drum life.
Do any other warnings/errors show up on the display at end of drum life?
                            Thanks in advance.

You need the right firmware. Like C? or higher.
Change SW51 to HEX30. At lease around here where i am!
