    Bizhub HDD backup utility

    Anyone used this?
    KM states:
Media (NVRAM, HDD etc.) in the device is backed up to the PC as an image file, and the image file backed up in the PC is restored to media in the device.

Will it help to restore machine in case of bad HDD, or when machine loses it's settings/mind after power spikes or something like that?

I have not used but it is my understanding that backs it up to the point that when the HDD is replaced you will not notice that it was. Two drawbacks to this is that since it is a HDD back up it could take several hours to backup and restore the HHD. Second, it will only restore back to that machine.

I don't see very many HDD failures on KM ... not like Toshiba, but it still sounds useful. Do you suppose it's a clone or just addressbook and network backup data?
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

First, thank you both for your reply.
Second, I have habit to search and use every peace of useful information, tools, data etc.
Just everything which may give me advantage when I'm in feeld.
There is no many information how this is supposed to work, but I think mincopier is probably right about it.
        There is the link:
HDD Backup Utility - Solution Software | KONICA MINOLTA
I see image file like 50 GB so it's not just only network settings and Address book.

OK, I went ahead and downloaded this stuff.
It needs Open API to be enabled and next Device setup program be installed before HDD Backup Utility.
There are some ReadMe files and 2 manuals how to install and use this.
It finds and registers machine easy, but has numerous disadvantages in my opinion:

          1. Only backup-ed device can be restored.
          2. When FW of device is updated, old backup cannot be used, it's recommended to perform backup again.
          3. There are 2 types of backup - Backup Box or Backup Image type may be not selected depending of device which in my case was bizhub C224e, it only allows Backup Box(Media types are-NVRAM, FLASH, HDD)
          4. Depending on media selected Backup and Restoration may take more than 10 hours.
          5. Backup/Restoration cannot be performed when MFP is in operation.
          6. When Backup/Restore is being performed control panel of MFP is locked and MFP must never be powered off.
          7. When Restore is performed the data on the media of the MFP is overwritten, so any changes after Backup will be lost.

I tried it today on an eS207L. I've got some details to add:

This Loire 2X was at v1254, so the #2) Diff Firmware option is not available. You can select the #2) HDD firmware choice, but the utility fails "Failed01".
I ran the test with the new drive and new firmware: #2) Diff Firmware is the only allowable choice, and gave "HDD Health Status: OK"

I can't confirm if it restores anything, since the utility didn't even run for me.

If this backs up user box this might be good.

Some clients have about 60 documents stored that would be painful to restore manually one at a time

Then better to remove the HDD and use disk image utility?
                Whatever

Here is what it offers on our C224e. Can't choose between Box or Image and can't uncheck box and do only NVRAM, FLASH, HDD.

Complete newbie to copiers here but 40 years in IT.

What OS does the Bizhub C454 run? Looking at the 320GB HDD it looks like a Unix flavor, and the partitions are marked as Linux but the files make no sense.

I am trying to restore and out of service unit and trying to clone the original HDD to a new 320GB laptop HDD. Which is how I found in the file checking that the format seems off.

                      Cheers!
