    Scanning issues

Afternoon all hoping someone can help.

We have a few devices across the e and 8 and range which have suddenly decided to stop scanning to email. All have server auth errors in job log. One customer had a new router put in and one is having to run off a sim card style router and recently swapped sims, in two other locations nothing has changed. The machines ping out to google (8.8.8.8) and all print fine but wont send a scan anywhere. Firmware up to date and same SMTP details work at other locations.

plug a laptop in the copiers lan cable and try Online SMTP Test - Send and Check your Email Server
it may help diagnose the connection or the copier as the culprit.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

            Re: Scanning issues

Hi, a new router may have a new gateway. For example, they usually have 192.168.1.1 but it could be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.178.1
What is your mail server? Gmail?

Probably you already know that on gmail to work sending emails from MFP you must enable Allow less secure apps in Security settings.

That's right, make sure to disable security on third-party apps. Sometimes it wakes up automatically

                    Re: Scanning issues

I recently have had several of the 4e and 8 series machines suddenly stop scanning to email. After attempting to troubleshoot I ended up having to go into service mode and initializing the network settings. Be sure to export current settings to thumb drive prior to initializing.

Wonder why Gmail considers a fairly modern copier less secure

I don't think Gmail considers the MFP unsecure, just some of the old ways we used to connect these things leaving the ports wide open for hacking..We had a college campus that got hacked via port 25 and sent print jobs to every online copier wasting about 25K sheets of paper. They were using unautheticated SMTP:25 Not gmail, but these web based providers have to protect themselves, many small businesses won't upgrade until they have no choice, I still have some customers running Win 2000..You can complain all you want, I will never be able to get my new devcie to scan back to your laptop. It is just Google slight of hand. They make it look like security is key, while they sell your information for billions of dollars. Lol
