    C-658, ratcheting noise...

Hey guys. The customer sent me a video (not sure I can upload it here) where the machine is ratcheting as paper is moving through it. It does not seem to jam? I replaced the fuser with a very low mileage fuser about 3 months ago, so not sure that is it... I know the part number has been changed, so were there significant changes made to this fuser that prevented this?? (I'm assuming the fuser is at fault, but not sure).
    Thank you in advance!

Also get this noise on these machine, even the 754 makes the exact same ratchet like noise. Never found the source of the noise. Customers did not complain about it and the machine does not cause any trouble. Did look for it and sure its not from the fuser. Sounds like its coming from a paper feeder or even the bypass.

Please post that audio clip. Would be good to get to the bottom of this.
One way would be to use soundcloud but that would be a lot of effort to post one clip.
    Whatever

Does it sound like a constant purring at idle and then picks up speed when jobs are running through? It's pretty loud and definitely noticeable even when the machine is at idle. In sleep mode it doesn't make a peep.

I've had a slew of these on the color and b/w 558 and 658 machines. It's the square white spring loaded actuator on the fuser and the gears directly under it. If you remove the fuser and take off the side covers + front cover you can recreate the noise easily.

Difficult to figure out what area of the machine that is. Please give more detail.
Don't have a parts manual on hand.

I have searched and I have found this.
Theoretically this noise had to disappear with the replacement of the fuser.

I've had this part of the fuser incorrectly assembled straight out of the factory making this racket.

Pulling this section apart isn't for the novice tech btw its quite fiddly, for such techs i would suggest complete replacement of the fuser.
