C450i noise - wont tun on

This account is far from my shop so wanted to ask before I went out there.

Customer called and said they were running a job, copier started making a loud "clicking" noise and when they went to machine there was internal error messg. They turned machine off and now it wont power back on. They said completely dead. My first thought with clicking was waste box or transfer belt clogged but not sure why internal error message or not powering up?

    Thanks for any help

There's not a whole long to go on, I guess I would get them to confirm the plug was still good first, maybe ask them to record when they turn it on to see if the display does anything or if it starts to power up any parts at all or makes any noises. Maybe open all the doors and try as well, it's hard to really give advice with the information being so limited.

Thanks for reply and agree theres not much info. After checking K/M knowledge base etc and not finding anything figured I would post here and maybe someone had similar experience. Going there tomorrow and will see what is going on and get more info. What's weird is this machine has less than 30k clicks but anything possible with these i series crap! Will report back as I usually do.

As always we are more than willing and ready to help it's just sometimes 'check the facts' and 'never trust customers' beat us on purpose. Though I never had an i series machine dead after loud noise.

Hi, Turns out it was the ESP surge protector was bad and why machine was dead. Guess the clicking customer heard was the surge protector before it died. Plugged directly into wall outlet and copier turned right on. Customer did call back in about an hour and said machine is printing fine but they went to use ADF and got internal error message, turned off and back on and everything worked fine rest of day. Going to return with a new surge protector and update F/W

Make sure you check the surge protector for any errors before you plug the machine into it. In my experience, those things don't completely fail unless there's an external reason for it.

Thanks I will check for any errors before plugging in.
The customer said the building lights were flickering earlier in day before it went dead. Funny thing is this was big electric company building before my account moved in. Think they would have good electric in building.
