    BH-C-284e, weird issue

BH-C-284e, weird issue. Machine has only 30K on the clock. According to customer, stops suddenly printing large jobs and hangs. When disconnected from power and restarted, a few pages are possible, but then hangs again. My first thought was a network issue, but customer says it's doing it also with copy jobs. Any ideas before I go there please?

Knee jerk thought would be HDD, but also unplug all peripherals and see if it still happens.

Are they printing via PCL or Postscript? This almost sound similar to a problem I had with a postscript job once. When you say "hangs", does the print job just stop printing or does the display become completely non-responsive?

I would also suggest running the self-diag on it just to check for problems like bad RAM, bad hdd, ect.

        Things to try :

Check to see that let windows manage my default printer is off. If left on windows substitutes the WSD driver without asking and it causes issues.

If the pcl driver is installed, you could always uninstall it and install the ps driver instead to see if the problem goes away

Make sure you install the latest firmware on the MFP

Since I noticed you said it is also happening with copy jobs and prints, FW could have a glitch and should be reloaded, or you might have a bad hard drive. Try uninstalling hdd (in service mode) and see if problem goes away.

I don't see it as HDD if copy jobs are hanging.
First rule of thumb for me is never trust the customer and self check the facts.
I would show and disconnect network cable then start copy jobs to see what happens, obviously after checking service mode for recorded errors and jams.
It's not rocket science it really is simple process to eliminate possible points of failure/problem one after another.
