C-658, jamming in the exit assy....

Hey guys.. so I just went out and replaced the exit assy with a low mileage used one on this machine today. I know that some of the parts fail and this machine has 1.6M pages on it, so the exit assy had to go at some point. I ran some pages on it and it ran fine, but soon after I left, it started jamming again and now I'm starting to think I've got a drive problem in the motor/frame somewhere. Has anyone ever replaced any of the motor/gear drive on the rear frame for the Exit Assembly for issues? The machine needs to be replaced, but they're not able to do that right at the moment...

Good question copyman.. I never looked at it. But I pulled the machine into my shop last night so I'm going to have another look at it later this week or weekend and see.

It looks like the code was 12-01, but I was able to modify the exit assy with the shortened spring and a spacer in between the solenoid and frame and that seems to have fixed some of the issues with jamming. I've still got some residual issues with Tray 2 not pulling paper (new rollers) so I'm going to try to go into the feed assy in the rear and see what's going on with that. I've been able to clean the one ways in that unit for feed issues before with success.

UPDATE: So this machine, having 1.6mil prints on it, now has issues with the paper feed drive on the rear lower left corner. I can hear something ratcheting, so I'm going to have to go into it (I already tried swapping the entire PF unit with no success) and figure out what parts are worn/defective in that area. I was hoping it simply had the same black plastic PF drive housing that the other machines have) but this one has motors and belt drive, apparently, and is different from C-458/558

And, yes, I tried to get the customer to upgrade, but they're not wanting to budge on that.

UPDATE: So, i pulled out the PF drive assy and there was definitely some ratcheting going on. I initially thought the drive belts may have been stretched, but it was the one way bearings that were locking up. Took that all apart, cleaned and lubed with silicone grease and away we went. Machine fixed!
