    Tray trouble Bizhub c550i

    Hello everyone!

I’m experiencing a very unusual issue with Tray 1 on a bizhub C550i. The printer only detects paper in Tray 1 when a full ream is loaded. If some printing has already been done and the tray is then opened and closed again, the machine reports that the tray is empty, even though paper is still present.

Here’s what has already been tested:
    • Swapped motors and sensors between Tray 1 and Tray 2 - no change in behavior.
    • Tray 2 functions normally - it attempts to lift the paper to check for presence.
    • Tray 1, however, does not attempt to lift the paper at all and immediately lights the orange paper-missing indicator.

This suggests that the issue may be related not just to detection, but to paper lift mechanism behavior itself.

Could you please advise on what else we should check or try in order to resolve this?

    Thank you in advance

What happens when you test the sensors in service mode, do they function normally, do they activate at the correct time. I'm thinking that if the paper tray upper limit sensor (PS25) is faulty, then it might think the tray is in the upper position, even though it's not, so it won't try and lift the paper, because it thinks it's at it's upper limit, which would give you the orange light, because the paper sensor (PS24) hasn't been activated.. Sorry if this is a bit jumbled, I know what I want to say in my head - but struggling to write it intelligently biggrin.png
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...
