Hey all. I just wanted to drop in here to thank everyone who helped me get that old Bizhub 423 back into fighting shape. It's been at my friend's office for several months now and she is thrilled with it. I would have never been able to get it going without you all sharing your time and expertise with me and I am sincerely thankful. I have a much greater appreciation for the complexity of these machines and what goes in to troubleshooting and maintaining them. I enjoyed the education. At the start of this adventure I had never done more than fill a paper tray on a copier.

Off the top of my head, here is a list of the work I was able to accomplish with your help:

      • Rebuilding the fuser (heat roller, pressure roller, thermistor, gears etc.)
      • Rebuilding the imaging unit (drum, developer etc).
      • Feed rollers on trays 1 and 2 to resolve paper feed issues.
      • Replaced registration roller and bushings.
      • Tweaked fax board settings to make the fax fairly reliable on a VOIP system.
      • Recovered the hard drive after I made a seemingly fatal configuration change..

      and more...

I had so much fun with it that I may be back with a new bizhub project.

Good job. You now have more experience with copier repair than most techs that companies are hiring now a days! Most companies are hiring IT / Networking people then try to make them into copier techs. Problem is "most, not all" IT people don't want to get their hands dirty working on a copier and would rather sit at desk in front of computer all day. Not saying there isn't a place for IT people to sit at desk and remote in to configure a copier to network, etc but not to try and make them into technicians! I was surprised a good friend and service manager at a large Kon/Min dealer said he would rather hire an IT person and train for copiers. He said experienced techs bring with them their bad habits, etc etc. He said times have changed from when he would only hired techs with copier experience.
