    C4080 varying skew

Has anyone dealt with varying skew. The machine has 200k on it. Its and all its options are leveled. There is no IQ on this one. We measured the paper to make sure its straight. Some times it DEAD ON and then it moves 1.5 to 2 millimeters. Any info would be helpful.

    Thanks for your time.

Are you using the feature that keeps the lift plate elevated? It keeps the lift plate elevated so you can lock the the thumb screws down that secure the position of the front and rear guides. When those front and rear guides are secured (close to the paper BUT NOT TIGHT) the paper is less likely to skew.

Remember to disable the lift plate lock when you're done, so the lift plate can lower when it's empty or when you open the tray, and the customer can load paper. =^..^=

You can use find the HTML Users Guide here:

In case you have trouble finding it, I segregated out a few pages:

    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

Thanks for the information. Yes we have confirmed that the side guides are set correctly in the tray. We have used the blue lever to confirm. Same issue. Im headed back there today and hopefully we can come up with a resolution

Try to determine if it's a specific tray causing the skew.

On vacuum feed trays, the belts may be slipping on the pulleys or the belts may be ripping. A front or rear belt can begin to slip, skewing the paper. If the belts are beginning to crack or tear don't waste your time with cleaning, just replace all three belts for that port. If there are no cracks, the belts may be coated with NCR coating or something like that, and may benefit from cleaning with an orange oil based cleaner (inside AND outside the belt).

If it's a roller feed tray, check the condition/wear of the rollers. =^..^=

          It happens on all trays.

If it's happening on 270-300gsm media, it's possible that the imaging drawer upper pre-registration guide M1 may be bent, from lifting it beyond it's stops. It can be straightened once or twice, but the metal becomes very soft, and will break:

Skewed images on 270 to 300gsm media only. Upper pre-registration guide M1 is bent, from lifting it further than it's stops. The downward warp delays the front side of heavier media. Temporarily re-form upper pre-registration guide M1. Eventually it may become fatiged and break at the front hinge. Replace guide plate M1 (A50U 8178 00) and sheets ([2] A50U 8863 00).
