    Another "i" series design flaw..

I've only sold a few of the "i" series and have a C450i that is having problem with paper tray. The side guides are opening a little when tray is closed. Especially if filled with heavy 11x17 paper. Either paper will come out skewed or not recognize size. After looking at tray I couldn't believe how cheap it was made, the ratchet teeth that lock tray are so small that guide can't get a good bite on it to lock.

After all these years when the "8" series came out I thought the days of tray guides slipping are finally over. The tray lever locked the guides great! Then leave it up to K/M to ruined a good thing!

Anyway sorry for ranting but this going backwards makes me mad

Anyone find a solution for this? I'm sure it has to do with the heavy 11x17 paper because other trays lock ok.

    Thanks in advance

Fix it with a self-tapper screw.

Yes I've done that many times over the years but wanted to see if any other options since this is a new model. Perhaps bulletin, mods, etc before doing that to a new machine. Also not sure if customer changes paper size in the drawers. Can't ask them to take screw out when changing paper size

I wound up doing that with a ton of 7 series machines, but I find on the I series, the problem is more with the small guide to the left of the stack than the ones to the front and rear. If that thing is even a single notch out of place, the machine can't tell the paper size.
