Hello gents, was recently visiting a friend who has 6 x c224 and 3 x C224e models. He asked if there was any way to add NFC to those models by changing the screen type such as possibly one from C258 or C308 maybe C368 and playing around with possible the firmware to enable those. Has anyone done anything such as this? I was thinking about an NFC Dongle or one with an USB plug perhaps could work if the appropriate changes are carried out on the firmware side?

Re: C224/ C224e NFC Mod?
there is a reason those models are discontinued.
they are the latest dinosaur in technology.
we barely were able to use gmail on them at the end of their life and he wants NFC?
how is NFC remotely popular to want it on multiple machines? We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
The medication helps though... -
Re: C224/ C224e NFC Mod?
Regarding Gmail, it took him a bit of messing around until he found the generating a less secure password option on his Google account.
The plan was to put it on one C224 and C224e respectively. I should also mention his print server is a 2007, 2.1 Mac Pro running windows 11.
Guy is an electrical Engineering and a modder of anything old. He said that technically it's possible that it should detect it from the USB. Though he wanted to find out if anyone tried it first. I'm pretty much sure all those C224/e models he have will outlast many of the newer ones. He invested heavily into replacing stock bearings with some titanium ones from Germany that cost more than the fuser itself and generally remaking most of the internal mechanical parts. Pretty sure he is going to flash a custom UI at some point. He is going to get the NFC working eventually, just wanted me to first check if anyone tried just buying a terminal, plughing it in and seeing if it works.Comment
