    c300i series drum edge damage

I look after multiple remote locations and minesites - this one is equatorial and has 90+% humidity every day of the year with constant temperature that never changes. It is not at all dirty all machines stay basically clean.

I am changing 20+ drums every visit and there is no obvious cause. Print quality issue shows up before the coating failure but is not as obvious. Once the edge coating is perforated down to the aluminium core it is very obvious as pictured.

Filthy minesites including another also an equatorial one with near identical weather conditions 6000km east of here has no such issues on same machines.

    Any ideas ?

Prior E and 8 series here never had this issue at all.

Good thread. Thank you both for sharing.

The environment sensor can fail on the i series A3 range causing this type of damage, although it seems unlikely that multiple machines would fail simultaneously.

This one isn't really lined up right for developer spacers. That's what I've seen cause the most damage.

The only thing that really comes to mind is a customer I had many years ago that manufactured grindstones. On every surface in the office there was a fine layer of grit. That grit found it's way into every crevice of the machine, taking out drum after drum. There was no real solution to it, other than re-locating the machine to another building. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

This is exactly the issue, annoyingly, several machines have done it a second time and no mention is made of the lot number of when the pcr rubber composition changed. So we are just left to hope for the best at great expense.

When first saw this issue about 12 months ago was told about this and was assured new drums would stop it happening, but here we are 😂

also note: theses drums are also squeaking bad you can lube them, take the 3 screws out and lube a small amount between drum and drive gear.

Had the exact same problem with a customer that made floor tiles.

C750i drums are notorious for squeaking.

I've seen the black drum blade overheat and flips / stops cleaning properly on machines doing thousands of pages in a single run too. (c750i)
