    C368 firmware guidance please

    Hi all!
    I have a customer with a C368 on firmware G00-G3.
It (obviously) wouldn't take -X4 and as I was looking at intermediate steps came across 'Special Firmware GXX-A2'.
The next step from G3 is K7, does this include the GXX-A2 fax fix?
If I update to K7, will I need another intermediary, or can I go straight to X4?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Re: C368 firmware guidance please

    Hello,

afaik there are no intermediate steps required.

BUT, there are always some people that recommend these things to do. (I couldn't find any written official information about that yet...)

In general in any higher version fixes released before are included. So there is no need to install special versions, except this is mentioned explicitly.

The last G00-version I found is G00-S1, first released in 01/2018.

Besides: I don`t update SSW 25 (FunctionLevel) if a machine is in use on customer's side. But that's what you have to decide.

    Overall:
    I would update to GCM-X4.
If you're in doubt, take some intermediate stages. There's no harm in trying.

    Good luck!

When you say it "wouldn't take", what do you mean by that? Did it give you an error? As ronny2502 stated there is no bridge firmware needed to update C368 firmware.
Make sure you remember to power off machine, insert thumb drive and then hold down the stop key while turning the power back on. Otherwise it will not work.

GXX-A2 is special firmware for the power save issue. It is not included in any other firmware nor does it come with any other fixes.

I would do G3 to K7 to X4, just make sure you change the function version dip switches and reboot after each update.

        switch 25 HEX 70 for K7
        switch 25 HEX B0 for X4

          Re: C368 firmware guidance please

I've updated 8 series old Firmware right to "X4" many times. A lot of off lease "8" series machines that had original factory F/W in them updated right to "X4". I just updated a C258 & C308 and both were at K7, no issues loading X4.

I thought updating F/W in steps was more for the older models?

Not to derail the thread but, this is good practice for new models, too. I've seen enough I-series get bricked due to jumping too far ahead in firmware versions. This document was released back in September and KM tech support has been pushing for I-series to be updated in intermediate steps up to G00-P8 firmware.

We only flash "Special" firmware if the fix actually applies to our machine, otherwise we don't do Special firmware. I know a lot of people will jump their firmware from whatever level they're on to the most current but we don't do that either, we step it up.

I tried to apply the GCM-X4, but it just paused at the 2nd pillar then booted as normal. Which is why I started looking for intermediates.

Most of the KM machines I service are off lease, and I have had the same experience with FW updates that you describe. This machine is on, what i assume is, the factory release G00-G3 from 2015 (prior the K7). I havent encountered this particular resistance on an 8 series before, hence the questions.

I just updated F/W on this off lease machine today (see before & after attached pics). This is 10th off lease "8" series that I've update this month with various early versions of software, all loaded X4 with no issues.

Going from R9 to X4 shouldn't give you any issues, that's function version 4.1 to 4.2

OP had G3 base firmware from 2015~ which is function version 3.2 - I would not jump straight to X4 from that old of a firmware version unless you like replacing boards.

It was explained to me during training that current firmware contains all previous updates in it. That's why it is unnecessary to update in stages.

I saw that R9 was from 2017 and machine came out around 2016 so figured it was old F/W.

Again I've never had an issue with "8" series jumping right to latest F/W.
