The original problem was a paper jam issue in the adf. I disassembled the adf and changed the two photocells for tale up and exit. When I reassembled and tested, it would give me a "matching size error". I ran the adjustment for min and max size on the adf, and now if you place a sheet in the portrait position, it shows it as A4. If I feed it in landscape, it works just fine, I couldn't find any other adjustment in the manual, unless I missed it. Any thoughts on what the issue is?

Just as a follow up, the solution was to NOT follow the size adj instructions in the manual. Instead of setting up US size paper for the adjustments, just move the guides to the A3 and B6 markers on the adf lid.The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.
