Left field, but. how about when it is dumping, carefully swap the cyan & magenta devs. (After covering the toner inlets)
Should let you know if it is dev or hv.

    genuine toner in use here.

I have advised against the replacement of boards till hotfuser comes up with a solution to this problem. Ordinarily I would of replaced the HV board and may well have to if this comes back again. But I have a feeling its the same issue which wont be fixed even replacing half the machine as he did. I have been watching this post intently. It is clear now why the cyan dev unit is the one that is always on back order.

The only other thing is non gen toners? As i found the toner shutters are not engaged properly, thus starving the devs of toner.

In the last few weeks cyan dev units have been failing all over the place, not just this machine.

I have NFI what is going on or what the cause is, one machine that started doing it was a brand new C224e, thats the only e series I have seen it on the others are non e's that have practically gone life without this issue, till I saw this post then it started happening to me. Always cyan without fail.

Note, this is the first one I have attended to personally, the rest have been co-workers. The firmware on this C554 is not the latest, from memory it was was 1 step back from the latest. The update to that level was done a long time ago and this issue has only started in the last couple months.

I will report back on its progress and what I do next. I goto this customer once every few weeks as they have a lot of machines. This like the other ones affected do 4 x as much colour as black printing.

Agree with Peter, i ended swapping the hvt, drum and dev all at once. Touch wood it has been ok for 6 months.

Have you swapped the HV board EarthKmTech?
Surely you can't have that many faulty dev units.

Thank you EarthKmTech for your find. Interesting it is. Just out of curiosity. When did you update the version up firmware on this particular machine? Plus all the firmwares afterwards? ( if it wasn't on )

I'm not a photocopier technician. I know about consumables, toners, drums, developer, etc.

It happens to rebuild a few bizhub C451 drums (they include the developer section). I bought OEM developer powder for C6500, but i realized it was not original (just imitation!). I noticed that the not OEM developer powder formed these buildups much more easily than the OEM developer. And also in the same place, a few cm from one end.
With no agitation and with the powder at one end (I tested on purpose using a drill) the OEM developer powder didn't develop any buildup at all.
Just a thought. I suspect bad developer powder.

I'm reading this thread for a long time. I would suggest for testing to empty the new developer unit, and fill with a new developer powder even from another model (e.g. the C220, or even the C6500).

TCR levels when leaving machine now with Cyan set to 0 like the rest.

Note, i have just run 10x 255 gradation 4 colour a3 test pages, just a habbit of mine that seems to stop new belts tearing at the blade.

    Grid still clean.

Very first page out, brand new drum and dev and belt and vacuumed mahine.

Cyan charge grid contaminated already. Tell me again how this is the hopper when the TCR level is perfect?

    IMG_1143.JPG

blew off the grid, run 20 more pages seems clean for NOW and printing without the faded edge. Lets see how long it lasts this time.

You are not the only one having this now.

Had it a few times. The customer complaints are for cyan dev crushed onto edges of colour prints.

This is a machine i am working on now, it is on its third cyan dev unit AND cyan drum.

Note, for some reason some 4 series machines, NOT all have cyan TCR set to +1. This machine was, I have now restored back to 0 like the rest.

I have checked the hopper and it is fine.

Today it has received a new transfer kit, vacuum out and yet another new cyan dev unit and drum. The machine is a c554 and has gone much of its life trouble free before this started.

Can you post the devs serial nr on the box, if you have some on hand.
Also isnt it easier to save the list output ob USB Stick. That way you can email it to KM.

    Guess what more units failing.

I installed a C224e last April 2014 and its first call was for C2551 we replaced the Dev unit and with in 2 hours the new unit had failed.

This seems that i am the only person that is having this problem.

I do not know which way to turn.

Well I've still never replaced any dev units on the C284 series & I have around 60 in my patch, visted one last week with 500k still on the original devs, fuser & transfer belt.

So far no devs replaced in any of our machines. UK market, Europe. We have even Olivetti and Develop versions of these E-series. Only 1 instance where MF452plus (C454e) had weird black issue with every now and then pages would start coming overtoned, text on page ok and background black as night. All readings were correct all levels correct. So had suspicion of dev or HV or TB. Since I didn't have any of those on hand decided to pull ITB OUT, checked cleaned contacts on belt and inside. Nothing done on HV board. Changed cyan for black drum to eliminate if drum is causing the issue. (Chip swap). Problem persisted.
Last resort to do at that time was to reload/upgrade FW. Problem persisted. Couldn't do much more so ordered new dev. Came back with new bk dev and the problem rectified it self. Couldn't believe it. And it is fine till this day.

So I personally think the issue was firmware.
That is the only thing your machines have in common.
    This could be:
    a) incorrect upgrade process (jump from mass production to which ever is the latest avoiding version up firmware )
    b) Incorrect machine and type selection during firmware upgrade. (Default may change between mass and version up firmware!)

As you said you had to take one machine with KM Tech specialist to factory default and built the firmware versions up and machine is holding OK. Do you recall the full procedure? I think the answer is there.

Wouldn't it be worth to do the same procedure to all of your machines? Time consuming but it may do the trick.
Hope this helps. Have a nice weekend!
