km 3050ci noise from laser cleaner

    Hi

Had to remove a laser due to a bit of paper sitting on top of the slit glass.

I followed the instructions in the service manual but when I put it back I get a noise from the laser cleaner motor, pushing the motor towards the back of the machine gently seems to lessen the problem.

I have looked on the Kyocera site and found nothing on this, whats the problem?

I haven't had this particular laser out, but I've had out the VoyagerE laser a few times. I seem to recall that there are some timed gears on the drive for the cleaner. When the laser slit glass drive is out of time the black developing unit hits the cams, and will not insert. I never heard a noise ... but I never got the machine assembled until I went back into the drive, and re-positioned the cams to the shutter-closed position, and the black developer unit then clears the slit glass drive cams.

I don't know if any of that helps you, but I think I would go back in and check the gear timing and bronze bushings on the slit glass drive.

On the Saturn laser cleaner drive it's common to get a squeaking noise during initialization because of friction of the surface of the drive cams. If it's that simple, all you need to do is remove the imaging units, and apply a little white lithium grease to the cams. You'll be able to test the results in System Menu > Adjustment/Maintenance > Laser Scanner Cleaner.

Let us know what you discover. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Take the lsu back out just enough to get to the motor and then wrap tape around it. this is in the alfard troubleshooting guide, I think they recommend using the orange filament tape but insulating tape works just as well. good luck

        Thanks for the replies.

        The fix was easy.

Remove all four drums / devs, push laser into place and fix with the two spring screws, push drums back in and test, noise gone.

No idea how this fixed the problem, sometimes it's not worth trying to figure it out.
