I'm having trouble updating the firmware on this model. tried 4 or 5 different thumb drives all formatted to fat or fat32 makes no difference, tried older firmware also tried thru net-viewer and it fails, tried the combined pack also, never goes to the update screen, tried printing from the same thumb drives thru the usb port and it work fine...anyone see this before, the thumb drives light up so they are recogniz000ed

Format the usb drive in your computer. make sure the extracted firmware files are on the root of the usb drive. If it does not go to the updated screen, it is either the incorrect f/w or the files are on a folder and not the root of the usb drive. unpack the dowloaded files to a folder in your computer and then copy[all the files and not the folder] to the usb drive, and see if all the files are copied. have done hundreds or these and if any failure, was due you my error in some way. I use a 512mb usb which is more than sufficient.

When you select format, in format properties hit "Restore device defaults" and than format it.

This is the best advice right here. Use the smallest possible USB drive, I have 128MB, 256MB, and 512MB sticks that work quite nicely for the older Kyoceras.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Had a few times that formatting on Windows 8 would not be read by the copier properly. Format with Windows 10 and all was well. Formatting with & or older would also fix the problem.
