C7103 on an Alphard Venus (KM-4550ci)

I've seen plenty of C7103's on Saturn, VoyagerE, and Voyagers, but never on a Venus.

Toner sensor errors are almost always developer drive related, and this one was no exception. I found developer rocks in the waste developer outlet of the magenta developer unit. I know that these are disposable units, but I got it to turn a little, so I figured I could chisel out the rocks and revive it.

So I got all the parts cleaned up, and actually didn't break anything. It re-assembled surprisingly easy. My customer suggested a kitchen sieve to filter out the toner rocks, and it worked marvelously. The problem arose as I was feeding the developer back in through the toner inlet. The developing unit spun nicely when it was empty, but once it got some drag from the developer, the gear on the auger started to skip, and I noticed it missing two teeth.

Fortunately for me there was another tech nearby with the magenta developing unit. It would have been much more satisfying to save the old unit. Alas, disposable units don't usually survive disassembly/repair, but it's worth trying. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Can you get the dev unit apart right down to the gears? We had a machine that was installed with the dev locks still on . Needless to say it wrecked 3 of 4 units (that went down well with the boss). It mangled the gears on those devs, was hoping we would be able to get the gears one day to repair the units!

Yes, both ends of the developing units disassemble easily. It's the re-assembly that's tricky, since you have to juggle 5 miniscule gears and shafts, while fitting the plastic cover, aligning shafts, and snapping it all together. The one that failed for me, was the gear with the one-way bearing. I suspect that's the one you'll need too, and maybe the auger. My auger was a cylindrical block of fused toner in the spout, until I very gradually started to shatter the fused toner with pliers.

As far as I can tell, all the developing units are identical, so you can part out any color (sorry ... colour) unit. I'll probably set aside the next developing unit that makes the PM cycle, and part it out.

I did consider the possibility of a problem with the developer waste locks, but the locks were used correctly, and were functioning properly. I don't really have a good explanation why only one of the developing units developed rocks. =^..^=
