What I am looking for is this firmware : 8/26/2014 which most likely will say 9 of 2014. If you have this firmware please email me.
I have tried various things and the only thing that works are printers that have this firmware version. how to go backwards will be a challenge though as I have not quite figured that out. I have tried updating firmware to latest version from Kyocera site. I am a qualified tech and have access to the site and phone support. Yes I have called support. Their answer replace the main board and load it with newest firmware. Didnt work. I can take the main board from a working printer and put it in the one that just had a main board replaced and it will work. The new board will not work and is as before. The process light blinks even after job is completed, it blinks forever. You can reboot to clear so you can print from windows application.
Ok here is more info.... I took another machine from another customer there to try. Same model machine 4100dn. The firmware was below the 8/26/2014 so I had a few firmware files except the one I need. I tried 7/2014, 1/2015 and 2016. none of which worked to repair. You cannot go backwards in firmware. But must be a way. I think I might have it figured out. Kyocera says they dont have the firmware file I am looking for. I took the main board out of the one that doesnt work and removed the battery and shorted the battery connector to reset the main board. When you boot now it will come up with an error. This is good because you can just load the firmware. But even if you try to load a previous version it will not load it but transfer a good image from the engine board. When you check the firmware now it will say what it was before you started and machine will boot fine. My proposal is to replace the eeprom on the engine board with a new one, and use the good main board that has the proper firmware in it and boot up. This should transfer the image to the engine eeprom. Now I will remove the main board and replace it with the cleared memory main board and try and load an earlier version before 8/26/2014 which I do have, And I bet it will revert to the version that was on the good board and I will have succeeded. I might not even need any firmware and just be able to use what I have to work with. I hope you have followed my reasoning. If you have the 8/26 firmware I would appreciate it. At least I will be able to prove to Kyocera the reason the as400 doesnt print properly is because its the firmware. Of course because of security updates etc, this should only be a temporary fix until Kyocera finds a cure.
