    [Electrical] Kyocera 1020MFP Garbled Comms

    Hi All....
I have a Kyocera 1020MFP that's having occasional garbled print-out and garbled return Scan-to-PC communications.

I have to travel out to this machine on Monday morning.

    Any ideas appreciated...

    tnx....

    Re: Kyocera 1020MFP Garbled Comms

FS-1020mfp, the horrible Aquarius series and the segment Kyocera should have never ventured into. It's hard to tell without a sample. I've seen bad drums, developer units and gears under 20k. Also, the cheap looking led image scanner unit can suddenly start to make gaps on copies/scans needing to be replaced without ever finding the cause. These machines are also very sensitive to low quality paper, which you will see by the white charger roller that need to be wiped often.

whatever interface cables , usb, parallel ect. they are using, walk with a replacement and start with that first. since it is a mfp, then, does it occur when coping also. If it works fine when coping , then interface cable problem most likely.

        Wow....that's a good one!

How is the quality of power that the MFP and Computer is hooked up to?....are there any network devices--switches, hubs, etc. that have failing power supplies? Try doing a continuous ping from the sending computer to see if you get any dropped packets: ping 192.168.1.1 -t This will do a continuous ping to the copier....if there are any dropped packets/disconnects, you'll see it!

Other than that, if you have garbled prints, it could be that the user is sending a print job that has data that is constantly changing--banners, videos, etc. on a web page. Best way to check it is hook up your laptop with a crossover ethernet cable and print directly to it to see if you have any issues that way! Website designers usually don't think about how the end user is going to use their webpage and a complex webpage may cause print issues!

If it is a webpage that is causing the printing problem, you can download Bullzip PDF printer for free--which simplifies a webpage which you can then print.

Also make sure that you have the most recent firmware on the MFP and also the most recent print driver installed on the computer.

As an added note, I went on a recent call. Customer was using an Apple computer with the Postscript print driver. Customer had a printer problem with jibberish text on numerous pages printing out. Come to find out, the wireless network they were using was an old Linksys access point. When they moved the computer from a position and then over another two or so feet, the computer lost wi-fi signal, which would during printing effectively cause lost packets and therefore a corrupted print job. My advice to them was to get a Netgear Wireless router with MIMO beamsteering technology...hopefully they take my advice!

          Re: Kyocera 1020MFP Garbled Comms

Until I get to see the Job I don't have any sure facts about the problem....

I'm aware that the MFP is connected to multiple computers.
I'm thinking first along the lines of bad web or PDF pages, but the customer insists the return Scan-to-Pc is getting jibberish as well.
I'm not sure if this machine is ethernet capable.
          Maybe a network/usb cable into a router/modem.
Maybe a bad WIFI interference from RF sperry ?

Some HP models throw random printout grabbage from Win8.1 through a USB cable.
Solution turn off the MFD and reinsert the USB cable fixes the problem.
I might have to dump the computer USB driver and reinstall it.

For those that aren't sure Kyocera FSC-1020MPF is rebadge RICOH SPF232 SF

Machine copies b&w and colour copies fine.

Comms Facts : Still no network print or network scan-to-folder:
Plugged in a Laptop with a cross over cable. Two perfectly lit LED lights at the net cable socket.
Can ping the machine continuously from any machine and laptop with out fault.
Can log into the WIM/Command Center perfectly from any machine and laptop without fault.
Try DHCP, and Manual IP entries a couple of times.

Install the correct printer driver PCL-5 (had PCL-6 on all office machines), on my Laptop,
and still cannot print or see any wake-on-lan activity. The MFP will not activate on print or scan-to-folder.
The MFP just will not do comms with print or scan, every thing else works fine.
I've done a Network Settings reset. As a last attempt I've done a factory default reset through SP mode.

Network PC's are XP, WIN7 and my Laptop is on Win8.1.

I feel I'm going to have to go back to the customer with a NIC board ?

            Suggestions.....

If that machine has a USB port, try printing from your laptop through it. If that works, you should be able to eliminate anything but the NIC board.

Yes I forgot to mention that fact when I closed the thread.
I walked away thinking I should have stated I did try to print through the USB port without success.

The problem is like Job Print Lock is on permanent. The Print Lock timer is set for 60sec. Auto continue is set to on.

I feel the Fax may have been printing a memory fax while the scan-to-folder was sending a scan maybe getting a memory lock???? There is no SC codes there is no Fax errors around the time the machine faulted.

The strange part is the machine has full communications and printing ability when using the WIM/Command center. You can print out all error logs, consumables, config pages reports etc.

I may try a new DIMM to see if it jogs something.
I'm waiting on Kyocera Tech support to get back to me with Firmware. If they take any longer I may ask if someone has the Network firmware just to see if it resets something.

The above may help jog a light bulb for someone.....

Some print issues i have resolved by doing the factory reset from the command center also. Under BASIC, then RESET. Worth a try anyway. Also send the prescribe command to reset the engine.

                  !R! EGRE;EXIT;

In some models this command does not work, but again something to try.

                    Re: Kyocera 1020MFP Garbled Comms

I went back to the customer today with a full set of firmware.
The firmware for this model can only be done through a computer and cross over cable into the NIC or USB socket.

The original problem with this machine was no NIC printer comms. <add shaking in boots here>
                    1. So I first update the Engine firmware using the Ethernet cable into the MFP; the firmware updated perfect no problems.
                    2. Next I attempt to update the PDL firmware and the MFP just sits there with "Updating Firmware" on the Display for
around twenty five minutes. The firmware did not update at all.
                    3. Forced to do the one and only cardinal sin of firmware -- I was forced to turn the machine off.
                    4. I now have a bricked MFP.

                    5. I have removed the NIC & PDL PC-boards from this machine and cleaned away all the gecko p!ss, from the back of the
boards. So we have now found the cause of the original comms fault with the MFP.

                    6. After cleaning the two PCB's I feel this MPF might come back online. Any suggestions on how to unbrick this MFP.
I've tried to redo the firmware as per the manual but it will not reset or accept any updates.

Remember this is a Ricoh rebadge box some of you guys might have a trick up your sleeve. PM me if you want.

..... I feel two new PCB's coming on.......

                      G'day fellas...

Does any one have a 2nd hand FSC-1020MFP machine they are want to sell for parts?
I've sourced genuine new PCB's to repair this machine and the repair cost out weighs the price of a new machine.

This machine has a low copy count, I don't want to write it off...

                      Preferably Australian suppliers....

                      PM me with any details...

Can anyone direct me to the sale of second hand machine, or Aust. Kyocera dealer wanting to supply used parts for FSC-1020MFP ?

The customer insists I find another 2nd hand machine an rebuild their old machine.

This customer has quite a lot of toner($$$) in stock for their faulty machine and would like to use it all before purchasing a newer model.
