Charge roller issue

I have noticed that some of the B/W as well as color machine's charge rollers get dirty very easily. When cleaning them I notice that they have bumps on them. I have been told that the bumps will eventually arc to the drum causing the drum as well as the charge roller to need replacement. Therefor I would assume its best to go ahead and replace the charge roller when I notice the bumps.

Is this normal for all Kyoceras? How do you deal with this issue? Can you purchase just the roller or do you have to get the whole MC unit? Is it worth going through the warranty process on charge rollers?

Although I am not new to copiers, I am new to the Kyoceras. Thought I would turn to those who have more experience in order to learn.

Once they get bumps, you just need to replace them MC7605 B&W or MC8705 for color. Although, I do believe they are interchangable if you only want to stock one.
I accidently grabbed an MC6705 for a color machine & it seemed to work fine. They are worth warrantying if it's still an option as they're expensive.
If they don't have bumps, you can clean them with Blow-Off rubber rejuvenator or simple green, but the lines will usually come back in time.
We were told that the cleaning brush was made spiral in the new line to eliminate the lines. It supposedly carries the paper dust to the end.
Seems like a load of crap to me, but what do I know ?

cleaning with alcohol and sturdy cloth works fine as well. just make sure the alcohol is dry before reinstalling.

Thanks tmaged. Is this issue across the board or is it specific to certain models? Usually the damage is done when I get to a machine for C/Q issue. Charge roller caked, then I clean it and the bumps are there. Don't see a preventive measure that I can think of. We install more off-lease equipment (PM done before install) than new out-of-box equipment and I am seeing this more frequently. Trying to get a feel on what models to stock charge rollers. We are a small dealer so we don't want to stock something we may not need for a long time or never.

I don't know about damaging the drum. I just notice dark spots when printing full bleed. The bumps will not show up on a text document. Therefore if I have a low-color client I will swap K and Y (if K has bumps). Then make a note next call to replace the MC

All Kyocera monochrome models have the MC roller issue and cleaning them with alcohol is a temporary work around; they get easily damaged so clean them gently. Keep a MC Roller in your car stock.

We haven't really touched the '1' range but as for the Taskalpards we had the issue from the low end Ta3050ci all the way up to the Ta8000i. We found that the rollers themselves could be changed between the mono and colour machines the only difference seems to be the housing. It's a simple enough job to get the roller out of the housing just a case of unclipping the ends. We havent had any issues of the T.C damaging the drum so i guess if you're happy with the C.Q. and the customer is you could let the blebbed charges run until it becomes a C.Q. issue.

Also when you change the T.C. don't forget to reset Sim U930. As it adjusts voltages for the new T.C.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience. Seems one of Kyocera's flaw is the charge roller. Like any other mfg. they all have their flaws. I have been impressed with the Kyoceras so far. They seem to run well if you do the PM maintenance like you should. Looked at the price of a 3010i ch roll and I see what you were talking about. Oh well, it is what it is. Thanks again.

ya we call it starring it happens to most of the newer and legacy models they will need replacements

there is a tech bulletin on this,high humidity is causing rubber to bubble and split.better changing drum and charger.new charger fitted to old drum ,lines can come back.

I have this problem on a FS3140mfp. The machine has had a line(s) usually or background from the charge roller after 40K+ on the drum. I clean it with water as mentioned earlier and that helps or completely resolves it but only for the short term. It is always the charge roller causing me to change the drum unit again. The machine has under 200K and has had at least 3 new drums replaced. Kyocera should offer the charge rollers at a fare price or extend the warranty and own up to a problem.

BTW Canon has been using charge rollers for many years and never had any of these issues. Things like this are the reason I stop selling that brand. This can be very frustrating.

Maybe we are supposed to clean the charge roller every toner change or is it every other page.
