    Buying a CS-2560

    Hi,

I've a client who is about to buy a Copystar CS-2560 to replace a ten-year-old boat anchor. For several years the client has had a local toner refill store sell him his supplies. We've been going back and forth on the service contract with a copier vendor. The service contract supplies all consumables except paper.

My question is how good a deal are the maintenance contracts with supplies? The contract is about $15 per month per 1000 copies. These guys print 3 to 6000 copies per month now and plan on growth of about 50% over the next two years. Also is there any problem buying third party toner supplies with Copystar printers?

    Thanks , padre

Aftermarket supplies will void the 1 year Copystar warranty. If you think the toner savings is worth giving up the manufacturers warranty, go for it.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

For a full service contract $0.015 per page is a GREAT deal if your only running 1k a month, but it is not a great deal if your running 6k a month. If you know your running 3-6k per month you should get a price for about a 4k per month base (should be lower then $0.015) with quarterly overages billings to help even out the peaks and valleys in your monthly usage.

If you know what your monthly volume is going to be then comit to it and get a better price. It works just like Costco, the more you buy the cheaper it gets. Here are two examples for a 5,000 page monthly volume:
      Your plan:
      $15 per 1,000 = $0.015 per page = $75.00/mo = $900.00 annually (60,000 pages total)

      Better plan for you:
      4,000 per month @ .012 = $48.00/mo + 3,000 ovgs/qtr @ .012 = $36.00 = $720.00 annually (60,000 pages total)
98% of the time a full service contract is a beter deal for all parties involved so I would reccommend it. The old analog crap worked OK with crappy aftermarket toner but not the new stuff, ALWAYS use OEM toner and make sure that is is written into the terms and conditions of your service contract.

      I hope this helps!
