fs 1135 no duplex, jam 4301, paper wont pull back for duplex

So this machine won't duplex, the paper exits but when it should reverse and copy the other side it makes a binding noise and a jam 4301 appears. So I got the manual it is less than clear on what is supposed to happen here. It appears that the main motor drives the exit rollers, so doe's the motor reverse? also there is a solenoid involved where is the located? and what doe's it move, a guide I presume but where is it ?
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hello,

You must have this split wheel. 302HS31180 it sits behind the mainboard in the lower left corner

There's a drive unit just to the left and above the fuser from the back of the machine. The drive unit also contains the gear that drives the fuser. There is a solenoid and gear assembly inside that unit that drives the switchback. You'll have to pull the optics section and the main board to get to it.

We have had to replace fuser assemblies on those, its a time consuming process, disassemble and reverse process. Check the two spring loaded paper guides on the back door, have also had one of those pop out and when duplexing, will cause jam in the reversing of copy.

It is the exit assembly, officially called feed assembly [302H994380]. The solenoid craps out and does not allow the retard lever to fully engage the gears to perform the reversal. We have found it cheaper and more reliable to just replace the whole assembly versus just the solenoid. We have replaced numerous assemblies for the duplex problem in addition to noise complaints even on single sided copies. After doing a few of these you can usually get it done in under an hour, just be careful of the flex cables on the scanner, the edge contacts are easily dislodged.
