    kyocera 1128 c4000 error

Hey all, I've got one of these with a fairly low meter in my shop giving me a bad polygon code. I've got enough good used ones laying around that I normally just swap them out if I have a difficult problem, but I'm thinking I might pull one out of a parts machine and replace it. I don't have the manual, never needed one before. What would be the easiest way of pulling it out, or is there no easy way and I should make a parts machine out of it?

If you dont care if it is turned into a parts machine then tare it apart. I guess I dont understand the question! Are you afraid to take the covers off and turn a screwdriver?

I had one do the same thing about a month ago. If you have parts machines pull a laser unit out and try that first. That's what it ended up being for me.

There's no easy way to get to that laser ... if that's what your asking. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Swapping out a laser unit can be done in under 45 minutes. Get the manual and follow the replacement procedures, not easy but not extremely difficult either. Just be careful when re-installing the flex circuit from the scanner as you can easily de-laminate a contact if you try to force it. Next question would be is how many parts machines do you want if you don't use them to repair a unit such as this?

No, I'm not afraid to turn it into a parts machine if I have to, I was looking for someone that had done it before to tell me if it was even worth doing. Some of these desktop machines can be very time consuming, if you'd ever replaced the drive gear kit on an hp4015 you'd know what I mean. I have another machine I can use for parts too, but as I've never replaced a laser on one of these I'm not sure where to start and will have to figure it out. I don't know if it's a 30 minute job or a 2 hour job. If it's 2 hours, then disassembling one for the part, then disassembling the second one I want to fix and reassembling could take up to 6 hours, not worth the investment in time. I hope that answers your question at to why I asked, and thank you for the oh so helpful answer you posted.

I've done a few of these, and it is a little bit of a pain, not the worst thing I've ever done though. Pretty much the top half of the machine almost down to the frame is gonna come off, just make sure you dont lose any screws :P and good luck.

Hey, you"re welcome. 1-5-4 in the service manual tell you all the info needed to tear out the LSU. Maybe if you read the f-ing thing and tried you wouldn't have to ask here!

Nothing wrong with asking "hey, has anyone done xyx?" It's water-cooler talk. Doesn't mean he's a lazy tech. Besides, sometimes the manual is very misleading.

Replacing the laser unit would be worth the time if you have a donor unit. Remove the covers, remove the scanner unit, remove the exit tray, laser unit exposed. If you have done this before, 20-25 minutes tops. If you haven't done this before and do not have a manual add 20 minutes. Re-assemble 35 minutes. total time for tearing down donor unit and repair unit and then re-assembling repair unit is under two hours. For me it would be a no brainer.

Well, Blackcat was correct, there is no easy way. I finally had some free time and decided to tear apart a parts machine to see how difficult it was. The answer to my question is it worth the time is a big fat NO. You have to take all covers off and remove the entire scanner section, then remove the cover of the engine to get to it. Many cables to be unthreaded through different holes. Can I do it now, yes I can. Will I ever do it again, no I wont.
