I was curious if anyone else has these the developing units for these models consistently failing early, and if so does anyone know why? Is it a poor contact inside that can be cleaned or something. Usually what I get is a grey band on the backside of a copy, the front side looks fine so it's not a problem unless they're doing double sided. I have had them go completely bad though where they were making great copies one day and dark copies with heavy background the next day on the front side. Generally speaking, Kyocera developer units will go far past a pm cycle, not crap out halfway through it. Just wondering if there is a fix for this other than being a part swapper.

You can throw in the low end Alphards also: KM-2550ci, KM-2551ci. I've noticed it too. Hanabi developing units rarely make the PM cycle.
Sorry, no solution. Developer refresh just causes it to overtone. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

As PhilB said, "compatible" toners! Even if you or the customer is getting the toner from the same supplier, are they getting it from the same manufacturer? The reason for the sudden change is the customer changed the toner cartridge and the toner in the new cartridge is different from the old cartridge [even if from the same supplier] and one adheres to the dev roller and the other does not and drops onto the transfer roller causing the background on the backside. Do not see this with OEM toner. You will also experience fuser assemblies not reaching life counts [usally only half] as the compatible toner will build up on the heat roller causing ghosting. Between having to vacuum DV units and replacing pre-mature failures on fusers, the cost savings on using compatible toners actually turns out to be an added expense.Comment
