Kyocera TA-3551ci showing memory full when scanning

So, I have a 3551ci in a medical office. Here's the complaint: They scan back to back jobs of about 7 sheets each. These are B&W pages. They scan the jobs separately and it tells them the memory is full and they have to wait to scan the rest of the jobs. The scan folders are on a server.

Scan resolution is: 600x600 dpi set to full color.

Luckily one of my good friends is over their network. I told him to hook up his laptop and see if he still has the same problem. I want to eliminate the network/server as a potential problem. He hasn't gotten around to doing it yet as I just got the service call.

    Any words of wisdom?

    Thanks.

Color file is 4 times larger than b/w
Set to lower dpi and b/w
150 dpi is fine for text docs

Thanks, bro. That's at the top of my list. Hopefully the customer will go along with it.

Just heard back from the IT guy and he said the documents are a mixture of B&W and color. Had him set resolution to 300x300. Still defaulted to color. Waiting to hear back if the problem persists.

Is the memory full message implying the memory on the printer? It sounds like it might be RAM getting overwhelmed and you may just be able to add a couple cheap chips to alleviate the issue.

From my understanding, high compression uses more memory...it only reduces the size of the file. Can someone confirm or deny?

Thanks for the input, bsm2. I appreciate your help.

It has 3.5GB. I think that's the max for this model.

compression is done on the hhd so that's not an issue.

That is the max so yeah I think I'm gonna have to agree with the rest of the thread, only option is to reduce data amount one way or the other. Reducing quality seems like the most straightforward method, I don't think high compression would use any more memory... I won't swear to it but I would certainly consider trying it.

This is where my lack of knowledge holds me back. My friend who is the computer guru and IT person at the account told me that it uses more memory after I suggested using high compression pdf. I'm gonna have to go over to the account and try it myself.

                      Again, thanks for the help.

You can also reduce the memory load by setting the default to auto color. This reduces the amount of memory used due to the machine only storing pages that have color as color, pages with just BW are scanned as BW with a much lower memory load. Just as a heads up, the machine will display a memory full if the quota for the folder you are scanning to has been exceeded. Had a case with a state agency with the same problem, the network admins had set a quota on the folder the users scanned to and until documents were removed from the folder to reduce it below the quota it throw memory full on the machine. Have your IT guy check if there is a quota placed on the scan to folder.

                          Change the print driver. Really.
