    Dots showing on Copystar CS4550ci

    Hey all,

I have a Copystar CS4550ci and I have magenta and black dots showing up the page. Two magenta dots next to each other and then a black dot. From what I can understand from my research, the likely culprit is the charge roller. After discussing with the manufacturer, they want me to have a service rep come out and change it. The drum / charge rollers are several hundred dollars a piece and I'm well enough versed in taking things apart and putting them back together, I would rather look into replacing myself. Can someone confirm for me that the issue I'm having is the charge roller / drum? If so, can someone provide a part number or a link to get them at a reasonable price? My understanding is that i also need one for each color affected. (Magenta and Black)

Is there a service manual or can someone walk me through where to access this roller? My guess is between the toner cartridge and the waste cartridge in the compartment there. Just need to make sure I can get a guide on how to get to it and swap it out.

Thank you all for all your help.

    Mike

Open the front cover, remove the 5 screws that hold the toner hopper on, unplug toner hopper, remove toner hopper, pull out charge rollers.

All kyocera machine's have a 3 year warranty on the parts.
How old are the units. Warranty would also be effective if the PM was performed on time within the first 3 years owned.

I have no idea. We bought this unit used for dirt cheap knowing it needed some work. We've had the unit for about 2 years now. The unit I know after talking with Kyocera is an older unit. Thanks for the input though

My understanding is that it's part of a drum kit? Also- do you happen to know of the part number or somewhere where I can get these that aren't going to cost $300-$500 a piece?

          Thanks,

Theres no way that machine is still under warranty. Its a 0 series. Order new charge rollers from precision roller.

Thanks! I like the prices I'm seeing, but of course they're out of stock! Hahaha

Before you go replacing ANYthing, you need to measure the distance between the dots. 37.5mm or 1 1/2 inches is for the charge roller.

                    Try MC-8720. Suit TA-4550ci
Genuine units are less than $100, and if available, just the rollers themselves are under $10 easy to do as described above.

Yes they're in the drum unit but you don't need to dissemble anything. i has a spring handle that you squeeze and pull out. Careful not to scratch the rubber roller because it will show up on all copies as well.

I agree with the post below. The charge rollers develop bumps on them and cause dots on the page. Hope this helps.

I'm gonna say this again. It's a terrible idea to replace parts without doing your homework. Measure the distance between the dots. It's fast and simple. Replacing the charge roller may sound like the obvious solution but lots of things can cause repetitive dots on a page.

What would you say if you went to your doctor and he felt your forehead and told you that you needed surgery? Do your homework and stop guessing.

                            In that case yes, replace.
                            BUT for dirty/lines try this:
Remove roller.. apply some NuFinish car polish.. spread evenly over roller.. buff off with lint free cloth.
*NOTE it may take two applications to get the roller clean.
Been using this trick for decades. Learned it from Static Control Company seminar.

If you do replace the charge roller be sure to run the following:

                              - U930 (clear charge roller counter)
                              - U464 (calibration)
                              - U410 (adjusting the halftone automatically)
