    3552ci missing color fyi

    I wanted to throw this out there, an experience from last week.

    3552ci suddenly stopped printing yellow with no error codes except hidden C7620 and C7614(auto cal/registration). We went through the whole darn machine looking for obvious failures that could do this without coding, such as primary transfer inside the belt, HV contacts, developer, drum/dv drive, transfer HV, imaging HV, but after all that, it turned out to be a dead laser diode inside the common LSU, that somehow didn't cause any laser BD or stabilization codes!

    If I had to go to a call like this again, I'd put a strip of scotch tape on the charge roller and check for a heavy yellow stripe on printouts which is a much faster way to prove that all the rotating and HV systems are working, a tip I learned about late in the process of this call unfortunately!

    It sounds like you worked for that one. You don't see many failed laser units on Kyocera.

    Thanks for sharing. =^..^=
    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Interesting. Do the Kyo have 4 laser diodes inside common laser unit? I know KonicaMinoltas have 1 diode or maybe 2 on faster devices.
      Good info though. I would also think it will code out.

        Starting with the 02/52 series, the laser scanning section has been unified into a single part with either1 or 4 laser diodes mounted to a little circuit board on the side, a single BD sensor on it's own tiny board, a single ordinary polygon motor, and a whole lot of lenses/mirrors.

          Our branch can go for years without changing a KYO laser, but we had a 5002 (which gave a LSU code), and this 3552ci within about a week of each other!

              BD=beam detect.
