Kyocera and UK PSTI compliance act. Admin password lost.

PSTI compliance, the catalyst for trust in product security. New UK legislation comes into force on 29th of April 2024. The Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) regulations are long overdue and will enable buyers to make informed choices.

It's a good idea as far as home equipment goes, like routers for example, and I am sure it will be implemented a lot better for these products.
Kyocera's implementation of it isn't the best, a small diamond on the box indicates its PSTI compliant and a vague piece of paper in the box with the password.
Why couldn't they stick it underneath the doc feeder or the front door, maybe it wouldn't be compliant that way.
The way forward is to create a spreadsheet with the serial number and password before it gets sent to the customer.

I honestly don't know which point angers me more. Is it because of rubbish implementation (yes! stick a f**kin label on a device) or because currently there is no way to get or change that password. I hope Kyo comes up with a solution fast.

There is an email address for resetting the password in the link provided, Kyocera should have a list of all PSTI devices and relevant passwords, you could try that.

So far it seems to only be applied to their A4 devices.

It's only applicable to the A4 models, since they are more likely to be purchased by the public as a home printer.

So Kyocera feel that home users with A4 devices are more venerable than corporate clients with larger A3 devices!? ?

So far only A4 devices are listed (my link in the first post), without a doubt, all are going to get this "upgrade".

I had two cases where the passwords were lost. Distributors logged a ticket, Kyo and TA sent a lost password.

The legislation is to ban default passwords on consumer products, a TaskAlfa 8353 with finisher and booklet is not a consumer product, it's aimed largely at consumer IOT devices, printers are just a consequence.

I doubt it, although we have seen a few 4054's where to register a card reader from the control panel required
Admin and serial number of the machine, usually it's 4000, 4000 maybe that's the way they're going forward with the office equipment.
The PSTI info on the Government's website is as clear as mud this is easier to read
The UK PSTI Act introduces new security requirements manufacturers of Internet-connected products must comply with – or face penalties. Learn what the PSTI Act is, what it covers, and how to comply.

I wonder if the crap from Ebay will be affected.
